Engine type...??

How do I find out the exact engine I have in my truck? I do know it's an 8 cylinder but I don't know if it's a 5.0 or 5.2....It's an old beater 1989 truck that I bought for $800 that runs well and drive pretty good. I'm trying to get things repaired, replaced, and etc. I know I need to put a t-stat in it so the engine will warm up and the heater will work when winter comes around again.

This may be a dumb question but I honestly can't find any labels on the truck to tell me anything about it.

Isn't the displacement printed on the top of the plenum? I thought they either said 5.0 or 5.8 on the V8 trucks.

If that's not on there, you could also use the VIN decoder: VIN Decoder - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Some of the motors (like my 88 and my parts engine) do not say 5.0L on it it just says ford electronic fuel injection. I think this is only for the 85-89 trucks as our 90 F150 is like the one you posted, however the 86 F150 we had is like the one on my 88.

It was very unlikely to be a 5.2L since that's a Dodge engine. Ford never made a 5.2L.
