Just had Injectors, EGR Delete, etc.....

I have an 05 with 118K and just had the usual all 8 stock injectors and the egr deleted. Head gaskets were replaced at approx 75K with stock bolts. I ordered a SCT X4 tuner to rid myself of the CEL after the delete. Man what a difference the tuner makes in that truck!!

I am running the "street" tune for now, and it turned the truck into what I consider a hot rod. Anyways long story short and get to my question.

Usually i tow a 3,500ish lb bass boat most of the time and occasionally a 12K 5th wheel camper. I know that it won't be safe to tow the camper on the street tune, but what about the bass boat? Also what kind of HP and torque gains do the street tune add? I noticed in the tuner it had a 50HP & 65HP tow tune, but had no info for the street.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Stay stock is the best answer to your question when towing if you are adding HP on stock head bolts. Play a little but not to much.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not into going fast or getting there very fast either, not that it isn't fun seeing what even is considered a mild tune does for one of these things. I was planning on tuning back to stock for towing anyways or at least to the 50HP tune.

The stock torque to yield head bolt is good, but adding extra over OEM raises the cylinder pressure and compromises the gasket seal. You will never notice it when it first happens and will get comfortable with your settings over time.

The best solution is head studs if you want to add HP. Some owners may have a different opinion over my thoughts and may chime in on their experience.
