Newbie Question (truck will not stay running)

That is what I was thinking... other than the generator part - how do I repolarize it? Anything else I need to look for other than the coil?

Also an update, with air filter off, started truck and when it started to die I added starting fluid. It stayed running for just a little longer.
Changed Fuel filters, and this helped restart time to almost instant, but I think the fuel filter may have just not been able to keep up, so I ordered a new one. Hoping this helps. I also plan to remove the fuel tank and check it as well.

Should have mentioned that I tried the fuel line to bucket. Cranked the engine and bucket was pretty much empty, got very little fuel. So either clogged line/tank or pump. what fuel made it to the filter (prior to the pump) was clean so betting on pump. But still plan to look at line and tank to make sure.

Well found the issue... took my air compressor and blew back through the fuel line to the tank.... guess I need to clean the tank as has been mentioned (previous owner told me he had cleaned it out) well, it started right up and ran great, drove it around the neighborhood for about any hour all seemed to run good. Just need to look into the horn not working and some lights that don't work. Fix a couple other issues then I can start using my new truck

Probably a pretty common situation. Not sure of the history of your truck, but I imagine a lot of people get an old car that hasn't been run much lately, if at all. They think it will fire right up, and all the rust the tank has been working so hard on decides it will be the first to the carb, clogging lines, needles, valves and jets up in the process.
Glad you got it running though. Get a backup pump while you're thinking about it!

I see the tag on the firewall common on 51's but just so I'll know, how can you tell the hood is a 51 and not a 52 from the side view ? I'd like to learn something new . Thanks.

Good news that you have it running again.
It's really not that bad of a job to remove the gas tank in these trucks. I have done the clean-out job, then coat the inside of the tank with one of the POR-15 gas tank sealer kits. There are several brands of fuel tank kits. The coatings will not rust.
Right now you know that you have debris in the tank just waiting for a chance to plug up that fuel line again.

1. The 51 has side trim like yours. The 52 has a round piece toward the front.
2. The front pieces are different for the two years. The 52 has FORD lettering below the hood and a V8 symbol if so equipped.
