'79 Bronco 9-inch info

Well, my center section is blown-up. I'm trying to figure out whether I should buy a new one or have mine rebuilt. In keeping my eye out for one, I have a few questions.
  1. According to the tag, it's a 3.50 gear with limited slip. Is that all the info I need?
  2. Are there a variety of spline counts for our trucks, or if I look for one from a 78-79 bronco, or 70's F-150 will I be ok?
  3. Also, are they all limited slip, or is that a rare option that will make one harder to find?

Thanks

You can count the splines but it is most likely a 31 spline, unless someone changed it out in the past. Also the limited slips arent ultra rare but they do wear out so finding a used 1 that isnt probably is a rarity. Personally I would just rebuild mine or have someone do it if I dint know how. Then you know what you have.

I agree with Gator, rebuild the one you have if you want it to be somewhat stock still. If you do any type of offroading you may want to looking into a better posi or locker set up.

if this 9" is behind the rig in your sig running the 473ci motor I would recommend going 35 spline center section and axles.

can you give us a bit more info on what failed? you might consider going to a full float rear end also.
