03' F350 6.0l, turbo cuts out and black smoke out the pipe - Help Please
Well, I guess I finally have to deal with this issue with my truck. As the title says, it is a 2003 F350 with the 6.0 diesel in it with 60,000 miles on it. Symptoms are pretty simple. The turbo cuts in and out. Sometimes, I hear a burp/fart/chug when the turbo cuts out and that is when I get black smoke out of the tailpipe. Other times, I know the turbo has cut out but I do not get the black smoke. The burp/fart/chug and resultant smoke comes when I am somewhat into the accelerator. If I am not halfway into the accelerator, the turbo whine just stops and I can tell there is a lot less power, but I do not get the fart/burp/chug and there is no black smoke.
I pulled the EGR valve yesterday, for the first time in 11 years of owning the truck, and I cleaned it off. Other than vacuuming the hole that the EGR valve goes into, I did not scrape it out and clean it up at all. When I put the EGR valve back in, the turbo whine was a lot higher, and the truck had a lot more power. However, I was still experiencing the burp/fart/chug initially. Then, it went away completely and the truck had a bunch of power. That was yesterday afternoon. This morning, it is a mess once more.
This morning, same BS as yesterday morning and the truck is lacking power once again whenever the turbo cuts out and it burps/farts/chugs/bucks.
The computer is not throwing any codes at all.
Is this an EGR valve issue? Should I just replace the EGR valve with a new one instead of trying to clean it? Does a bad EGR valve throw a code?
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Justins right you need a Gauge to Monitor some things, you could try and clean up the Map follow the hose down to the Intake and clean the little hole also make sure the hose is cleared out with no cracks then EBP and Tube some use weed eater line to make sure the tube is free of soot as far as the sensor don't spray anything on that just make sure the hole is open ( not plugged up) also Inspect the CAC boots for splits If your loosing boost those will sure do it. with your Gauges Monitor EBP, MAP, VGT, Boost
