it depends, i have a 6.2 in a dump truck which i love plus i own two powerstrokes which i love as well. the 6.2 is a very surprising engine, now the fuel mpg is not great but it is a good engine. when i tow over 10k i get to strokin cause the diesel you can put on cruise and leave it alone

I bought a brand new Lariat in 2012 with the 6.2....I wanted the 6.7 but could not afford it at the time. I drive my truck daily and the 6.2 is great! very good power but the mpg is not so fantastic. I have a 28' enclosed trailer for my cars....loaded down its probably 9-10k The 6.2 pulled it no problem but you have to anticipate a lot when pulling out and changing lanes. Plus it does gear hunt a good bit and did not like pulling in 6th unless it was flat and aroung 65mph.

Last November I traded up to a 2015 6.7 Platinum......I dont need it in anyway the 6.2 did just fine but its what I have always wanted. The day to day driving is much more enjoyable this 7k pound truck accelerates like a car! I average 15.5-16.5 on my daily commute. When towing my trailer is where I really know the extra money was well spent. I can pass, pull hills effortlessly and put it in 6th and it stays there and just pulls. Hands down the 6.7 is a damn beast!

This topic has been brought up a ton! aside from the guys that actually need the power who really tow heavy all the time most of us just buy because we want it. I went back and forth trying to justufy the added cost.....in the end if you dont need it there is NO justifying it. It just costs more to buy and maintain period! Go drive one you will want it...if you can afford it then buy it! if the money is questionable then buy the 6.2.

I am currently having the "jack hammering" valve issue that has recently started popping up on these 6.7's it is a frustrating problem to have but supposedly Ford is working on a fix. Other than that the truck is amazing and there is no shortage of power...ever!

I drive empty 99% of the time, and the other 1% I'm towing my 3500lb boat 5 miles down the road to the Marina. Do I need the diesel for the power/torque? Not at all, but I do need a diesel because I drive a lot of miles each year (45k +) and in 3 years time I'd simply wear out a gas truck (have done it). I can usually break even at the end of 3 years on trade value vs equity with the diesel which I couldn't do on a gasser. Good luck on your choice.

My justification is "because I want it and I can afford it."
