Fuel Tank sizes in trucks.

I have read the fuel tank in long bed truck is like 35gals vs tank in regular bed is 25.

Could you not get a tank from one and put in the other.. what is the problem with the tanks or it the mounts etc..

just wondering.

i have a 4 door with 6 or 7 foot bed truck so not sure.

The tank is too long. I think it would hit the transfer case. I know I would've done it, along with many other folks, a long time ago if it were possible. Short bed is a bit over 6.5 feet long.

I have a long bed 4 door and a whole ANOTHER tank in front of the stock fuel tank. It's 18 gallons and I use it for veggie oil.

If you lose the location for your spare, yes an EX tank will fit.

You don't want to "swap" anything. You wanna' "add".

There are those on here who have done it.

Just do the harpoon mod on your tank and cut it off high. You end up with a 33 gallon tank.

the proper term is not regular bed/long bed.
it is 8 foot bed and short bed.

Excursion tank is awesome.

But it's a HUGE pain to install.

Need to take the bed off and torch out the crossmember.

There are 2 good writeups on installing these here on FTE, I will post links.

plus you loose the spare tire storage area under the bed. In the Excursion the spare tire is located in back to left which takes up a good amount of room buts allow for that honking big tank under the body.

here are some pictures of the install.
