.... Wheel / Tire / Lift question

Right now I have a 2004 - 6.4, 4wheel drive X
pretty much all stock... on 16" rims
I did upgrade the tires slightly to Nitto Terra Grappler LT285/75/r16

Tread is getting low so maybe its now time to do a slight upgrade...

I'd like to make it as tall as the new Super Dutys
(cant go too big with it because I still need to fit inside of parking garages in the city from time to time and need to fit under their roofs)

Then I would like to get a pair of black 18" or 20" rims
with the biggest tires I can fit under the wheel well without any rubbing
but I wouldn't mind if they stuck out past the truck an inch or so -- I like that look

Suggestions on lifts/springs, wheel spacers, wheels, and tires ??

I have a black X, and i'm looking to black it out with black rims, black AMP running boards, etc.....

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions

If fitting into a parking garage is on your priority list, I don't know how big you're going to be able to go. I just have V/B springs and 285 tires - no other height-altering suspension mods, and I barely fit into parking garages. There are a couple that I don't fit in right now.

Hey HilllBillly,

If you're looking for a moderate lift, and better ride, I'd highly suggest reaching out to ATS their rep here on the forum is ATS_Junior. He hooked me up with a set of X/C's and I couldn't be happier.

I'm currently running 18x9's on 35/12.50/18R BFG's.

Only bad part about the X/C code swap is that I don't know if the extra height will make him not fit in parking garages. How tall are the parking garages lowest clearance?

Parking Garages - some say 6'8, some say 6'10.... some say 7'0

right now I tend to go in anything that says 6'6 or above.....

Ideally i'd like a 3" lift but I know that may be pushing....
or maybe I should just stick with the 285 tires and upgrade to an 18" rim ??... I think 20" rim would be pushing it with a 285 tire

If it helps, at my tallest point of my roof rack I'm at 89" currently with the X/C's and new wheels and tires.

If you don't want to swap leaf springs you could try 295/55R20s (pretty much same size as you have now) with some 2" Shackles.

Once you exceed 84" tall its a crap shoot where you will fit.

As you said in your previous thread asking the same question (that mecdac linked to....) you currently hit the height bar going into these parking garages with your 285 16" tires (33"-ish). With that situation you aren't going to be able to add any lift unless you want a convertible EX, I really don't know what you are hoping that we will tell you here given that situation. The best you could do looks wise with bigger rims might be to go to 18"s with another set of 33" tires, any taller tire than that might lead to contact with the parking garage ceiling. If you are dead set on getting a lift and taller tires then plan on finding on street parking from now on.

Lets go back to the original post & not dwell on the Parking Garage clearance.

And MecDac --- Sorry to waste your time with a "Deja Vu" but luckily it appears you have plenty of free time on your hands if you have time to go back and search everyones previous threads....
No harm / No foul -- hopefully you can forgive me

Or....Mecdac is showing how easy the search function is

There are variables with spring fatigue and manufacturing difference in tire sizes that "spec" the same size.

I think you need to measure from the ground to the bottom of the center of the wheel well arches on a Super duty you would like to compare to.

Then do the math and decide how to get there wether it is a different wheel and tire alone or with and with out hangers / blocks etc.

But, one thing is for sure, the help you receive is in direct correlation with the attitude you portray. And BTW, I'm a fairly new guy here. Only a few months of posting.

To add, I also wanted to get to the stock height of the super duties in the 99-04 range.

I never measured but after looking on the links posted found out the springs are different between the EX and truck lineups.

I did x code springs from an F550 and the modded B rear springs and gained two inches front and rear.

The rear of the trucks are still probably 2 inches taller in the rear as they use a taller factory block and weigh less back there.

I am unsure of the newest super duties ride height.
