Jacking up the truck

When I changed my shocks several months ago, I realized that the jack that comes with the truck sucks. It worked but it sucks. The floor jack I have is a low profile one that I had for my Corvette and wouldn't get the wheel off the ground.

What do you use to jack your truck? Floor jack or bottle jack, what capacity and lift height?

Thanks!

Sweet, that would work. I think my jack is a 2 ton as I knew the vette didn't weigh 4000 lbs. Is that sufficient to jack up one corner of the truck?

I have a 2 ton and it does just fine with my 2000 7.3 4x4. I have had all 4 wheels off at one time before, just position your stands properly and you are good to go. I also use a 5" or so piece of 2x4 on top of the metal pad in order to keep from scaring the frame/axles.

I have a 3.5 ton floor jack that I bought from Sam's several years ago. It has never had a problem jacking up either of my duallies or my heavy Excursion. Of course, I use it to just jack. I then rest the vehicle on 6 and 12 ton jack stands.

I use an Arcan 3.5T jack I got at Costco. This is the first jack I've seen that didn't flex when lifting the heavy front ends of these trucks.

I just have Roy come over and pick my truck up!!

No really I picked up a Napa 3 1/2 Ton jack on sale and it works well. I guess if I need a jack on the road I will try the on that comes with the truck.

I used to carry a 6 ton bottle jack for 'on the road'.........

Now, the dually has a bottle jack as standard equipment.......I think, I'll still carry a 2nd 6 ton bottle jack........

My experience with the 2 and 2.5 ton floor jacks (have 2 of them) they will not pick up a corner of the truck.
Even my 3 ton takes a good push on the long handle.........

I use either one of my 12T Harbor Freight bottle jacks (1 low profile stored in the 5er and 1 standard height) though the heavy 3T trolley jack will lift the entire rear or one front corner at a time at least. Then the 6T stationary jack stands go underneath.

A note - many jack stands like Harbor Freight are rated for use, i.e. 6T or whatever, as a pair, not singly.
