I would be very interested in this if you manage to find a combination of parts to do it. I'm currently going nuts trying to find either a saginaw type 2 P/S pump for a custom bracket setup i bought off wild horses 4x4, or a factory bracket for the stock pump.

The pulley's aren't the problem, and neither is the routing.

Yesterday I did a little more research and found that basically all motors turn clockwise, meaning that our old water pumps and power steering pumps also turn clockwise.

Alternators don't matter much because they will generate electricity whether turned clockwise or counterclockwise.... but their pulley is where it counts.

A clockwise pulley has ribs, a counterclockwise pulley is smooth - this makes sense when you compare the newer 351W motors with the older motors. The older 351W have a "ribbed" (2 rib V-belt ) pulley that makes them turn clockwise. Alternatively, the newer 351W motors turn counterclockwise, as denoted by their serpentine set-up and smooth (or reverse rotation) water pump pulley.

The only thing I could find online regarding a clockwise serpentine pulley set-up for a Ford water pump was a mid 80's crown victoria... They apparently had a standard rotation (clockwise) water pump set-up... and they had a serpentine system.

So we need to steal the water pump pulley off of a mid 80's Crown Victoria.

As for bracketry, well... that's going to take a lot of massaging because we need to align the pulleys. Routing the belt is easy because we can make our own brackets to make it all work.

Check out E-350 vans that came with a 460 motor.

The E-series vans always came with a Saginaw power steering pump if they had the 460 motor - so you should be able to steal the bracket.

IIRC, another thread mentioned drilling 1 hole in the 460 bracket to make it fit the 400 motor - but that's a fairly simply task to do.

I'm using a Saginaw pump on Dad's 400. Here's a link to how I'm doing that: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14448560.

Thanks for the info! I've already got a custom bracket for the Type 2 P/S pump; just can't seem to find the pump anywhere. Wild Horses 4x4 will sell me a pump that works with their bracket, but they want like $250 for it. Anyone know what vehicles came with the GM type 2 pump so I can try to pick up one at the parts store?
