92 f150 300 straight 6 exhaust

I just got a Flowmaster super 44 for 92 f150 with a 300 straight 6. It sounded good at first when it just dumped out at the muffler, but now that I've put the rest of the piping on its gotten much quiter.

Would it be because it's all 2 1/4" pipe and if it is could I get the rumble back by upping my pipe diameter?

Was it instantly noticeable when you put the new exhaust on? Or have did you just notice it over time?

Mufflers "break in" and mellow after some use.

Yeah it was instantantly quieter, at least to me.

I don't expect it to be very loud because even though the displacement isn't far from a 302 it's still a 6 cylinder. This the first time I've put exhaust on anything so I'm a little new to it.

I've done many different exhaust set ups on a 300 and every time you run the pipes out to the back it really quiets them up. I currently have the same setup as you, the only difference is I did a side dump before the rear tire and love the sound. Oh and I did 3in cat back pipe

I did dump out before my rear tire, it think it's just the pipe size. I'm gonna up it to 3 after I get a new cat setup.

Did you have it turned down after the muffler? Because that does make it seek louder. I am not sure that bigger pipe will make it louder or not, but there isn't much you can do to make these motors loud lol

That's very true lol, It has a 90 degree elbow at the outlet on the muffler then another 2 1/2 ft pipe then the tip all of which are 2 1/4.

If you want it louder just run the full length pipe with no muffler. It's only going to be so loud with the cat in place.

I ran a Hooker Aero-Chamber muffler with a tail pipe that exited right in front of the rear tire on my old 86 F150. The Aero-Chamber muffler is a straight through design and it was pretty quiet unless you really got on it. Even then it wasn't extremely loud.
