Question Head gaskets on a .040 rebuild

Been searching all the forums (TDS, FTE, PSN) like mad and haven't came up with anything but a couple smart *** remarks.

I had my #8 cylinder scored pretty bad from a broken ring and had to go .040 over to clean it up.

Can OEM head gaskets be used when bored over that far?

I see PMM sells a .040 kit with factory head gaskets but it doesn't say if that's a special ford part number or what and it's sunday so I can't call :-p

I do not remember having to have a special head gasket when going up to .06" on stock rebuilds when I built engines 25 years ago.

I have never heard of special HG as it relates to bore size. I do know that the gasket cylinder holes are not perfectly round so you may have to file any edges that may hang over. Where you want to play close attention is how much is taken off the heads to get them flat. IIRC, the minimum is 4.74 head thickness (going off of memory), someone will correct me if I am wrong....

Thanks for your input!

Good thing I have two brand new heads since mine were cracked!

The machine shop sent me home with a Victor Reinz "black diamond" head gasket and I've just read so many horror stories that I'm wanting to spend a few more bucks to get an OEM set - just want to make sure they're going to work!
