Coke? I had heard foil and MMO. They look good though, that's all that matters.

Those wheels are so much nicer than the ones you had on the truck.
That Coke and tin foil did a fantastic job.

Just seen your thread mate. Looking good considering your loathing of bodywork. I'm with you there. Mine's a 1955 and at the very beginning of a rebuild. Whereabouts are you in UK?

More bits went on until it was complete and back together.

Then i moved onto the interior. I gave the inside a coat of hard wearing metal paint and fitting some sound deadening to absorb the tinnyness. And then set about making a new seat. I never liked bench seats, i find them uncomfortable, unsupportive and generally irritating. I had a base frame lying around from an old seat, and then found some seats i liked on ebay and molded it all together. Two seperate comfortable seats, with arm rests and a space between them for cup holders and a place to mount a modern style handbrake.

After that the truck looked like this and i was using it quite a bit.

My plan was to finish tidying it up for show season, clean up the motor which i didnt do last time as i didnt plan on keeping it but changed my mind mid build. I was going to paint the rest of the chassis and call it quits until next winter.

I stripped the front panels off - 30 mins work, Removed the bed so i could paint the chassis and replace the rotten wood.

The engine was lightly stripped down, rocker covers removed, valley cover, dizzy, intake, water pump..

I ordered a new Dizzy, new waterpump and associated parts, New headers, new edelbrock Carb and did some sand blasting and degreasing etc. And then started to paint the block and other bits.

I loved the look of it, except it needed to be low. And i hated how it rode...super bouncy and harsh. I wanted it low and smooth. So my small strip down and tidy up before the winter..became a complete overhaul of the whole chassis. But i know when it goes together now, it isnt coming back apart. I started stripping it down two weeks ago and started ordering parts.

I have since had a Mustang 2 kit delivered from Steve Lang, picked up a Jag IFS and am awaiting all the necessary parts to mount it all. A new chrome adjustable steering column and i will also be doing the brake master cylinder and all new brake pipes etc, boxing the chassis and fitting new crossmembers. Im still hoping to have it back together and on the road for this summer. I may be dreaming, i dont know. June 19th is my deadline at the moment as im supposed to be taking it over to Belgium for a car show.

Now some pics, all this has happened over the last week or so.

I got the Mustang 2 kit on yesterday. Started to look at fitting this morning before work. Soon as i offered the cross member up to the chassis, the sump was directly in the way.

I had two choices, move the engine and box forward 1 and a 1/2 inches...or profile the sump. I went with the sump.

I had a choice, move the engine forward an inch and a half..find a different sump which still may not work or profile the sump. Favoring Profiling the sump at the moment.

I cut some away and felt quite happy..then realized that more needs to go to clear the steering column. So i will look at that tomorrow now.

I was quite happy with this, until i realized it wont clear the steering rack so im going to have to modify it a little more which i will do now on Saturday.

Do you have to do anything special now that you made the sump smaller and it now holds less oil than before?

Not really. As long as the pickup sits in plenty of oil then its fine. I will re-position the pickup a little and i will likely weld in some baffles around it to stop the oil moving away from it on corners etc but i foresee no issues.

I may convert the sump yet to a rear sump. Its a nuisance in the UK as y-block parts are few and far between. I will assess it more on saturday and go from there
