Post 78 F350 Crew Cab Cummins Build

Hi everyone I am new to this page and I just bought a 78 ford crew cab that im going to do i minor restoration and a cummins swap and make this truck my daily driver.

SO my question is to everyone is were can I find rear doors and door panels and is LMC a good place to get doors and fenders from or is there another place. This truck doesn't have a lot of rust its just the doors are hammered and i want to get this truck rolling sometime this summer so i want new doors but cant find any rear doors and door panels i also have to hunt for a short bed because i don't want to keep the flatbed. So if u guys could help me out it would help!

Great looking truck!

The cummins has been covered a few times here so there will be plenty of help with your build..

Lmc is a pretty good place to get metal for your rig

Rear doors and rear door panels ARE NOT REPRODUCED by anyone. There are other places to shop for reproduced body parts.

Tabco, JBG, Dennis Carpenter, NPD.

If your rear doors are rust free, I would spend the money and get the dents taken out of them. Door panels are hard to come by. Once in a while a set pops up on ebay.

Just in case you didn't know, the first year for a factory Ford F350 with 4wd was 1979! A CC 4wd dent is always a cool ride. If you really care about the quality of parts, don't buy LMC, most of their parts are junk!! There are plenty of donor trucks out there with OEM parts. Being it's a CC the rear doors/panels might be difficult to find but I would restore the current one's before buying ANY repop one's. Just my .02

A cummins swap would be a nice swap!!

I guess with the parts to each his own because I received ALL quality stuff when I restored my 63 chevy through LMC..

77&79 put up a good list of many of the better suppliers..

I also agree on massaging the doors back to life if there isn't any real rust issues..

Thanks guys for the help! this truck was missing the badges on it so how do u figure out if its a 350 or a 250 I just figured it was because I compared the leaf pack to my buddy's 77 f250 and mine had a lot more. As of the rear doors one is rust free and is in great shape just missing a door panel the other three doors are rusted out I found a truck next to my place that is a short bed that is perfect for parts for mine just gotta figure out how to get it from him. This truck isn't in bad shape it has very little rust and I only bought it for 1500 so I feel I did pretty good lol and it runs and drives perfect. As far as a cummins swap who thinks I should do a ve pump or a p pump I have a 92 ve pump engine found with very low miles but I kinda wanted a p pump for performance and should I find a 5 speed or the 6 speed??

Hi,From the looks of it your truck is 4 wheel drive with front leaf springs and 8 lug nuts=F250.Ford did not build a 4x4 F350 Crew cab in the 70s.

In 1979 Ford made a 4x4 F350 regular cab and supercab. Not sure if they did a crew cab, but I don't think they did.

Yes as said above there wasn't a 1 ton 4x4 crew in the 70's..

If you can find parts trucks thats in good shape the parts tend to be 10x cheaper.. Which panel is missing?

1500$!!! That's a steal my friend!

I say the 12v cummins would be the optimum choice, easy to work on and die hard.. The standard 5 speed they came with have plenty in the top gear to get you down the road comfortably at 70 or so..

Yeah I feel I did good on the price I even drove it home so ya lol

As of the parts truck it would help a lot and make things a lot cheaper if I could get it I would only have to find a rear door and door panel for the right side.

Im defiantly doing a 12v cummins but there are 2 types there's a ve pump and a p pump a p pump would build a lot more hp but I have a ve pump 12v with really low miles found so I don't know if I should just run that as for a trans I would like the 6 speed but there hard to find.

anyway here's some pics there is little amount of rust there's a pic below of it but im not worried it will be easy and some shots of the interior.
