Parts and advice needed

Hi. Im new to the site. I just got my ford a couple of days ago and was thinking about doing a full body restoration and am in search of some odds and ends body parts. If anyone has any and would like to sell em, id probably be interested. Also i was wanting to put a lil bit bigger motor in it and i would like to see if anyone has anybadvice on how to go about doing the modifications needed. I was thinking of finding a 302 or something. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you for reading and thanks for your advice in advance.

Welcome to FTE!

You've arrived at a great site, big knowledge base here going back over ten years - lots of reading. Does yours have the 292? Don't be in such a big hurry to ditch the Y block, they aren't screamers in stock form but they are very cool engines and sound excellent, especially with some headers or rams horns and dual exhaust.

Betcha there's other things that need attention first. Just drive your "new" truck for while, it will tell you what it needs. Post some pics when you get a chance we like to see the old iron. Thanks for joining.

Its a field find so i have the option of rebuilding or doing whatever i would like. Right now im pretty much just getting ideas before i commit to something. But the motor is locked up so ive gotta make a decision about that first.

Ah, it's gotta six. Yeah it's a little rough, too. I bet you could get that motor running without too much trouble.

Vinnyd62, where are you located? I also have a 62 F100 but mine is a style side ( if a Chevy would be called a stepside), and I am very interested in parts from your engine. I am guessing it is a 223 motor, possibly with a 3 on the tree. If you decide to change to a 302 engine, I would be interested in buying the air cleaner and carb. If your close to NC, I wouldn't mind stopping by and helping you or giving you some advice. If you have any questions I also have the service manual, so don't be afraid to ask. We all are here to help one another and welcome to the group.

Im pretty sure its the 223. And yea its a three on the tree. I live in missouri. Not really close, But im going to see about getting this motor unstuck this week. If i dont have any luck, ill let you know. Im a body man. I usually just fix wrecked stuff so I dont really mess with motors too much but im starting to delve into motors a bit more.

Vinny, this is a web site I use for parts and these guys are local for me. There are many websites that are more than happy to send you a catalog, which is nice to compare shop for prices, especially if you happen to hit one of their sales. I would stay away from national parts depot, as some of their parts have the same part number for different years. They send you a part, when it is wrong and needs returning you have to pay a restocking fee, and plus return shipping. These websites are also good if you need a visual of how something is not quite working right and how to fix it. If you need a new head liner, I would go with a vinyl headliner, as the original headliner is a pain to install and takes 2 people and lots of patience (haven't heard of anyone installing one without CRACKING IT. )Here are the websites:

Flareside = Ford, a Stepside is a Chevrolet/GMC / Styleside = Ford, a Fleetside is a Chevrolet/GMC.

4th digit of the VIN is the engine code. 1963/64 F100/250: B = 262 1V I-6 / J = 223 1V I-6.

302 introduced in 1969 F100 (Bronco & Econoline). It mounts completely different than the 223/262 I-6, so you cannot use 1969/79 F100, 1975/79 F150 parts to mount it in a 1961/64.

Ok cool. Thanks Cazman. Ill check em out. And i figured the mounts would be different to put a 302 in it. I had planned on doing some mount fabrication i just wasnt sure how much trouble it would be to make em.

To install a 292 or 312, all you have to do is install a mount on the front crossmember. You can make your own or find one from a v8 truck to swap in.

The 223 can be made to perform pretty well, though and it's not too common to modify those. That's something I'd like to do.

It had crossed my mind to rebuild the 223, but i know next to nothing about engine performance and how to upgrade stuff. Also, id probably have to find a different transmission cause im not sure how it would perform with a beefed up motor.

Hot Rodded 223

Here's my 223. Its and 080 overbore, larger valves, warmed up cam shaft, 2 barrel Weber, Clifford intakes and split dual headers. Sounds nice and goes nice.
