question about changing 2015 king ranch f-250 antenna

Im looking to go to a little lower profile antenna as the factory one hits my garage door and about every car wash I go through. I know most antenna's just screw off this one looks different has anyone else had experience with this I cant find info anywhere. Do i just pull the little boot out and then unscrew it to remove it? I seen someone say somewhere they had to remove panels...

You remove the cowl, lift up the black rubber cover and you should have 2 pairs of phillips head screws that come out and you lift the assembly out, but the wire is one piece that runs into the wheel well and thru the firewall, you can see it if you open the passenger door and look through the gap, then unplug it from the radio and you can put anything you like in there. Or just cut the top 6 inches off the original and put a small vacuum cap over it, so it looks neat.

andrewglass - Hi. I had the same question about my new F350 antenna. I think you are asking how to remove the antenna from the base. YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMOVE THE COWL! The antenna is covered where it enters the cowl by a removable rubber boot that looks like the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter. Gently pry the rubber boot out of the plastic cowl and slide it up the antenna. You can do this with your fingers. This exposes the end of the antenna where it threads into the bottom base. Carefully unscrew the antenna using 2 wrenches or 2 pairs of pliers. Some owners report that the threads may be glued in place with locktite. Be careful because you do NOT want to strip the brass nut in the base from the surrounding plastic. After the car wash, you screw the antenna back into the base. Then it is easy to stuff the rubber boot back down into the cowl. See attached pictures.

Cheers,
Bob
