5.0 problem years

I read somewhere that the 5.0 had problems in the 2011-2012 years. I think it had something to do with the ticking/rattling sound. Having a 5.4 with phaser issues I would like to avoid that. I'm looking at a 2014 xlt but it has the 5.5 bed so I'm hoping I can broaden my search a little.

On a side note, anyone get the 5.5 bed and regret it? I've never had anything shorter than 6.5.

5.5 is what I have on my '02, ok for me, but, I would rather have the 6.5. I'm with you on trying to avoid years noted for troubles! If the truck I found was what I wanted, I'd go with 5.5 bed. There have been some 5.0 issues, mostly a knock that I've read about on a heap of F150 forums I frequent. One old boy's 5.0 I saw online just last week sounded like a diesel. Can't remember if it was this forum or another. Do a search on youtube, it should come up. Keep us posted on wha' ye get.

Yeah it's a 2014 xlt with 17k for $30k and although it is the short bed and no leather it seems to check the boxes. There are lots of ecoboosts with the longer bed and leather but from what I've read, I think the 5.0 will suit my needs better.

Zero issues with my 2014. The knock, tick, and "cylinder out of round" issues are from the years you mentioned.

mine is 2014. its too fast, sounds too cool and all the ecoboost guys have to come up and tell me, all the time, how much better their engine is. even when I say I don't want a v-6 they got to say how much better it is, so in a round about way the 5.0 hurts my ears from their attempts to put it down

I had full intentions of getting the 5.0 but ended up coming home with an ecoboost.

Power, ye get the '14 or a '15 Ecoboost? I'd about flip a coin on identical trucks for 5.0 and Ecoboost.

actually I got a 2013. It's the fx4 package with leather, sunroof and all that stuff.
If anyone had that setup with the 5.0 I would have went that route. The wife was the determining factor on the creature comforts though

Got a 2012 5.0 lariat, 50,000mi and no ticks. Runs as good as when I bought it. Used as my work truck, it is constantly filled with tools, ladder rack, ladders, tool boxes, and I pull a job site trailer around. I have only done oil changes and tires.

Nice to hear that as I just bought a 2012 5.0 Lariat with 43K miles.

It sounds good to me, but what should I be listening for and under what conditions ?
