My 1954 FATMAN suspension install

i thought i would post a before and after pix of my FATMAN install.
NOTES:
Fully boxed Stock Frame,
8.8 axle was also installed,
Front cross member was left due to the VIN stamping,
motor, trans and gas tanks bars have not been installed yet
the only issue i had and just now figured out was when we installed the C notch the rear frame rails drooped able 1 inch. easily corrected with 1 inch spacer blocks.

Very nicely done! A 4 link suspension kit is something I will be seriously looking into in the near future.
I have to say, man, that is the cleanest workshop floor I think I have ever seen!

Very nice work! I am planning a very similar install. Curious how many hours you think you have into the suspension install, boxing and finish paint.

Very nice install. How long did it take you? Did you work flat out on it or casually?

I keep seeing people saying it takes 3-4 months to do an IFS install, but to me it looks like something you could knock out in a week easily if you had a week off work.

Cheers

Jay

couple hours to get it in a level it.
couple hours doing mock ups
over all i think it to about 40 hours total, that cutting the old cross members out, boxing the frame and reinstalling the new parts. it took maybe 4-5 hours of sanding and working the welds, then basically disassemble paint and reassemble.
and the suspension it was done over a weeks time and to painting over the next few days.
here are a few pics of that process.....

Front tack welded in

rear tack welded in

mock drive shaft ;-)

I showed them to my wife and commented that that's an ingenious way to mock up a frame.

Am I reading it right that your rear frame rail after the c notch drooped an inch?

yes it did.
we fully boxed the frame before too.
i called FATMAN and talked to them and was told when they build a frame that C-Notched theirs also droops and they press it back straight.
Dan Carpenter also had the same issues with his truck.
not that big of a deal, i just used 1 inch aluminum blocks as spacers.
