If you get one of these it still should get a a shift kit, the factory lazy shifts are a big part of why these things don't last.

BTW.. these AODs were never factory installed in a truck behind anything bigger than a 5.0 but with the upgrades it will be fine behind a 5.8.
Alright I'll keep that in mind tomorrow when I go hunting for the engine and trans which together from the pull-a-part will only cost me about $360

Update on my Engine rebuild mission. I've gotten ahold of a set of GT40P heads and found some headers I'd like to buy as well. Also looking into doing a true dual Exhaust as well as porting and polishing my headers and intake. Contemplating whether I should invest in a 61mm TB because I found one for $100 cheaper than normal. Another thing I'm researching getting a K&N 57 series High flow air intake.

Got a 351w almost completely torn down to the block for $200, and I paid $100 for the GT40P heads. So far my budget build is going well! I also found an AOD a friend had that he's willing to give me for $400 which he might adjust the price if it needs rebuilt. Probably going to just see how much he would rebuild it for right away. Lemme know what you guys think.

Are you planning to use the stock truck intake? If so definitely port match the lower portion to the heads as best you can but don't bother with polishing it actually hurts airflow on the intake side. Throttle body is a waste of money IMO, put the money into a shift kit for the trans.

I was going to use the stock intake, port it and use that until I save up some more money to replace it. I've really only found one on summit racing it comes with the intake and the base but its like $600 for Edelbrock brand name haven't found one otherwise but haven't searched that hard either. I heard that the intake system was worse than the 5.0L motor wondering if I could just swap the intake for a decent after market one for a 5.0L engine. Would that work or would there be issues?

The 351 block is taller and wider so it requires a unique lower intake section, a stock 5.0 intake won't work. Companies that make aftermarket intake system typically offer 2 different lower sections to mate with a common upper for each engine. The Ford GT40 is also setup this way, there was 5.8 lower made but it rare and expensive when found, it is also out of production now so you will only find used versions.

. The rebuild alone is going to get you vastly more power than what you had...
