Any 460 bell will work. it does NOT have to be the aluminum one that is in there now

Thank you Brad. I appreciate all of your help. I will start looking for one now. They seem to be pretty pricey on ebay.

I am not sure what it is. I am certain that the transmission is a BW, either the T18 or T19. I have no idea though on the tcase. That will be my next research project.

It seems that since the case is cast iron, it is most definitely heavy duty. I also noticed that 4th gear does slip so when I do the bell housing, I am going to change out the clutch too.

Ford Truck Manual Transmissions

here is another one for the Manual trans...although there are a few errors I can see on this one, but for the most part it is pretty accurate.

Well, it is for sure a T18 Transmission. It only has the PTO plate on the passenger side. Now the T-case, no idea. I have to say that I didn't see it on the page you posted for me. I am suspecting it might be a 205, but I am no sure. I am pretty sure it was from an older Ford from the 80's. So perhaps I will start there. I am really hot to trot for a bell housing. Those bloody things are expensive!

It's an NP205 transfer case. Which Ford stopped using in 1979.
I'd disagree about the bell housing. I think it has to be an aluminum bell from an '83-'87 460.
No 4 speeds after '87 as Ford went to the ZF. No 4 speeds in a truck with a 460 before 1983.

The pre-'79 internally balanced engines could be swapped over to manual with a 351m/400 cast steel bell and a 390 flywheel. You can't use the 351m/400 bell on the post '79 externally balanced 460. The aluminum bell is deeper and the steel ones are for mechanically linkage (different fork).
