Used v10 avoiding car haulers

Looking at purchasing a used 250 CC w/6.8. Prefer 2006-2008/09. I've been looking at a few of these over time and more recently since I'm in need of a truck. I'm attempting to avoid car haulers during this search. Catching the fifth wheel or gooseneck or wear on a seat is obvious but I'm finding trucks that are immaculate both inside and out but have have odd things like deep wear on the steering wheel for example. Anyone understand the concern or have a better way of evaluating what they did before meeting the dealer lot? Or if you even care..? These trucks obviously are all over the states so its viewing pictures to understand the condition.

In this case pictures aren't worth a thousand words. I've been shopping and most all the pics show the buggy in immaculate condition, but once visited I've generally been disappointed. There is nothing like an actual drive.

I beleive the PO of my truck hauled with it. I got it with 64k miles and it had had a fifthwheel installed at some point because theres holes in the bed and 7pin installed in the bed. Also has the steering wheel worn on top like you mentioned. It looked clean and well maintained. I figured these trucks are made to tow so why not go ahead nd buy it. 3 years later and no issues. It just sits and is mostly a weekend warrior. No matter what, when buying used you're left to karma's discretion.

Don't always just wright off a truck because it has a fifth wheel ball, my 06 had one and when I bought it at 70,000 miles I don't think it was hardly used for pulling. The flip down ball was in the down position and wouldn't come up for anything, I literally had to beat it into the up position with a sledgehammer and rod and the ball looked new other than my brute force marks.

I'm guessing it will be almost impossible to find used super duty of that era that has never pulled anything and to be perfectly honest it's almost impossible to tell exactly what they pulled in their past life just by looking at the truck. Other than the fifth wheel ball is shiny and won't flip down without a sledgehammer Lol you would never guess that my 06 F350 V10 has pulled many loads like this.
. Steering wheel and seat still look like new...... Well other than the big coffee stain in the seat .
(Edit)... Honestly I'd buy the truck again now even if I knew what It/I have pulled in the last five years.

thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate it. I have been in search of a pre 100K mi 2008-2009 SDCC. Interesting to know that it isnt a concern for you when you looked. With that knowledge I will post when I find one. maybe there is a forum member near to put eyes on it for me.

If you find one near Cincinnati I'd be glad to help. There are a few around here and with the diesel craze the V10 can be bought reasonably.

you need to look at each truck individually, drive it, check the car fax, etc. when I bought my current f-350 dually, the dealer had 3 to pick from, and this was the third dealer I checked with.

a. a white 2008 with 35000 miles on it. interier looked like big game cats where scratching and clawing thru all the uppostery. Pros, decent miles, cons color and interior, drove nice.

b. a black 2008 with 6K miles. interior was nice. turk bed looked like 1000 bricks had been dropped from a 3 story building into it.....hundreds of small crater dings. no steps. pros low miles, cons bed damage. drove nice.

c. a blue 2008 with 55k miles. interior in perfect condition. exteiror in perfect condition. cons miles was highest, pros great color, great condition, not missing anything, drove nice.

bought the blue one.
