Power Problem for 7 Pin Towing Plug - No Brake/Turn Lights
I have a 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with Towing Package. I just recently bought a Trailer and when they tested my 7 pin plug, I was only getting Running lights and 12v Charging. Im not getting Left/Right Blinkers or Brake. There is NO power. I checked all Fuses. The problem is, I cant find the Blinker/Brake fuse. The manufacture book does not show one. Any help would be appreciated.

Just checked the on line version of the owners manual....I lists fuse #7 in the fuse panel under the dash as trailer turn/brake lights. I would change the fuse....even if it looks good.....unless your 7 pin is not factory installed.

I think the following wiring diagram should work. Assuming your 7-pin plug is factory installed, this should be the factory wiring for it. "B" in the lower section of the diagram is for the running lights. Have you confirmed the ground connection is good at the 7-pin? You'll also want to check fuse F7 at the Smart Junction Box.

Trailer Brake Plug
Thank you everyone for your replies. I have another question....
Has anyone heard of needing the trailer brake installed for the 7 pin plug to work completely? A friend of mine said it may need to. Also, does the 7 pin plug need to be programmed to work in the truck computer?

I'll have to take a look at the wiring diagrams again. For the 7-pin RV plug to be fully operational, yes, a brake controller would be required. Looking at the diagram I previously posted, the pin number does not align with a standard 7-pin RV plug. Additionally this diagram does not have any provisions for a brake controller. But even without a brake controller the trailer light circuits should work. The only connection between a brake controller and the 7-pin RV connector is a single wire for the trailer brakes.
I know some manufactures don't connect things like battery power to the 7-pin plug but the owner's manual should identify if additional connections need to be made. I've not heard of needing to program the ECM to enable the 7-pin plug, but maybe F7 and F16 would need to be installed in the SJB.
