2150 motorcraft carb adjustment screws

So i decided i was going to rebuild my carb on my truck which has the 400m in it and when i took the two idling screws out on the front of the carb they were set at 3 3/4 turns out. The truck always ran great but my accelerator pump was bad so i rebuilt the whole carb and i set the screws back to where they were before and now it smells like it's burning raw fuel but I'm just curious is to why they were set out so far and it ran as good as it did? ?

I can't say for sure why it ran well, but these things do require tuning. Now that it's rebuilt, start over at 1 1/2 turns out and adjust.

That would explain the raw fuel smell!

Yeah, we all make mistakes that make us feel silly at some point. Glad you figured it out!
