We paid cash for a 40 acre place here in Wyoming, north of Lovell. Sight unseen. Gotta love the Internet!!
Has a crappy house on it, originally built in 1927. Has 2 additions built on the dirt--no foundation. It will be destroyed, and a new house will go up when we get around to it. Planning a 3br/2ba ranch with an attached 2 car garage, and a pole building that will be 3 parts. Shop/cold storage/barn. My plan is to have the old house gone & a new foundation in the ground before next winter. Time will tell.
For now, we live in Lovell at my wife's grandmother's house. She is 88 years old with Alzheimer's. We moved here to take care of her, keep her out of a home. It has been both challenging and rewarding.

We moved my dad in for 8 years (like you, he was not going to go to any home), I learned a lot about taking care of an elderly person, and a plus side, when he passed, he was with us, and not with strangers.

Lanny, I just realized I've seen you on TV before! Well, you and your wife, and your truck. Cool story.
We spent the last 2-3 weeks removing anything we might be able to reuse, and the wife had a fun time knocking holes in all the walls to check inside. No treasures found, but I do have an electrical service panel, hot water heater, and Blaze King for my shop (someday), and some other stuff that I'll sell on the local classifieds. The center part of the house has hardwood floors under the carpets, but raccoons got in the house and pissed & **** all over. It's in pretty rough shape, and I'm over the salvage stage. I'm ready to torch it.

Sounds like a good plan!
