Stuck on road
New to me 05 6L.
I bought it out of town and they delivered it today, I picked it up and noticed
the fuel guage was way past empty, no fuel warning light or anything on.
So I mistakenly decided the fuel guage wasn't working right(they just drove it 200 miles) as theres no way the seller would cut it that close on fuel.
I drove it to insurance place did another errand before I got fuel.
Shut it off and it wouldn't start again.
Tried it a couple times before it clicked it was out of fuel.
Borrowed a truck and went for fuel.
Still no start , took the top off fuel filter , nothing in it.
Recycled key 10 times still no fuel?
Any help appreciated.

Check if the fuel pump(HFCM) is running. Its mounted to the framerail, basically under the drivers seat area. Cycle the key from off to run(not start), and it should run for 10-20seconds, then shut off.
If it's running as it should, you want to open the lower filter cap(on fuel pump) to see if fuel is making it from tank to pump.
Be careful not to knick, or damage the orings on either filter cap during removal/installation.

If you can hear the pump running.
If you ran it that low and then out of fuel I am willing to bet
you picked up all the crap in the bottom of the tank and it is
all in the filter now. How much fuel did you put in it after the
no start happened? You may want to change the filters and get
at least 10 gallons in it. Once you get the lower filter replaced then
with the top filter cap off see how fast it fills. If you have fule coming
up to the filter put the new top one in and then cycle key 3 times
with a little bit of time between so that the air will bleed off. You might
hear a squeal as the air moves along it's way. If after the 3rd key cycle
it is still doing a squeal give it one more key cycle and then try to start.
Once it catches and runs let it idle for a bit to work the air out of the
injectors. Air will make for unhappy injectors(You risk broken nozzles
with the pintle bottoming out) Then your in HURT City.

the oil in the filter housing will drain back into the crankcase
just as soon as you start to unscrew the cap. There is a valve
in the lower half that lets it out.
The fuel filter housing should hold fuel when you remove the cap.
Also best to not use the 1/2" square on the cap to remove it they like
to crack. A socket is the best way. Most take something like a baster to
remove the fuel after they take the filter out to keep the lines clean
and not send any fine dirt to the injectors. One thing to try once you
have the filter out with some fuel in the bowl is called a bubble test.
Use the starter solenoid wire to crank it over a few times and watch for
any bubbles in the fuel. This will let you know if you have gasses pushing
back throw an injector of a bad copper washer on an injector. Don't worry
about that at this point. We need to know if your getting fuel to that filter.
For that you have to turn the key on, But not for very long. It fill very fast.
Best to have some help for that part. Nothing like diesel all over the harness.
Not the best for it also.
here is a photo of that wire I was talking about.
Just squeeze the connector and touch the end onto the + terminal of the battery
where the alternator bolts to it and you will spin the starter with out risking a start
so long as the key is off and out of the ignition.

Changed fuel filters and oil and oil filter.
It started fairly decently , I took it on a 10 minute drive came back and shut it off.
Tried to start it again , it turned over for longer than a normal truck would but it started.
Left it sit for a hour and tried again , it turned over so long I was starting to worry about the starter , it finally started.
Any ideas on that one?

Gut reaction is follow the most common issues. Hot no start = HPO leak. Cold hard start is electrical; batteries, FICM, alternator. THe PO sold the truck for a reason.
IMO the least wasteful (in time and money) option is to get some gauges on it and start ruling out options with facts and results. We can play 6.0 hypotheticals endlessly, but hard data narrows it down faster.
