The insurance dilemma if you have a nice truck
#16
I have had that "new car replacement" coverage on a couple of vehicles. I think with my insurance company, it's only available on cars 5 years old or newer. Means in the event of a write off, my 2012 would be replaced with a 2015 with all the same options, regardless of change in price. I do pay extra for that though. Write-off are so easy with even minor collisions, I think it's nice to have.
With trucks, one solution to this dillemma is to buy used trucks and always get a good bargain on them. Easier said than done, but at least then if it's written off, you are getting paid more than you paid for it. Has happened to me once, and I was pretty happy. That truck was pretty broken down though . . .

What you want to find is Agreed Value Auto Insurance.
Many insurance companies offer it, particularly those in the specialty car business like Hagerty and Leelan West.
Here's an article that explains it...

It is surprisingly inexpensive and if your rig is totaled it's very easy to get your money...
