6.0 Late model 04 turbo?

Hey everyone, I've found some helpful info on this forum so I'd like present my own question. I have an 04 6.0 that I am getting ready to put a Garrett Powermax in. When ordering one you have to choose whether it is to go on an 03-04 (pre 9/30/03 build date) or a 04.5-07 (post 9/30/03 build date). Here is where I am hesitant. My truck build date is 10/03 so you would assume it is the later pedestal platform. However, I've had a trusted mechanic feel it is still an early pedestal without looking at the truck. So from here I researched some more and I continue to see that an indefinite indicator of early vs late 6.0 is the ICP location. If it is behind the turbo, it's an 03. If it's on the valve cover, passenger side; 04. Mine is on the valve cover, but does this change to the engine also indicate the change to the turbo pedestal? Hope someone can give me a clear answer on whether this is a helpful indicator or not.

two things you can do: 1) buy an 03 turbo that will fit both pedestals. On an 04 pedestal you'll have to leave out the back bolt but that's nothing to worry about as it's been done MANY MANY times with no consequences. 2) buy an 04 turbo and 04 pedestal to go with it as the pedestal's are pretty cheap (<$70). If it turns out that you already have an 04 pedestal then return it.

Here is a link to some photos of the 2 different turbos.

Hard to tell just from looking from the front though.

Did the pedestal change with the intake manifold change? I don't recall.

By the way, are you going to get tuning for the truck with the new Powermax turbo? You will need it.

The pedestal did change with the intake manifold although either pedestal will fit on the "U" shaped manifold. Only the 03 pedestal will fit the rear crossover manifold.
