Rear View Mirror Fell Off - 97 Mountaineer

Hi,

I am hoping someone can advise me.

My auto-dim rear view mirror simply fell off while I was driving. It is now hanging by the wires. The windshield is in tact, and the "button" that attaches to the windshield is still firmly in place. However, it seems that perhaps the mounting itself will not snap back on to the button.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi AzPete,

Thanks for the suggestion . I did call a glass shop and they said they could repair for no charge.

I guess I will try that out. I was about to use some epoxy to glue the plastic housing back to the metal button but maybe I should have a pro look at it first.

Usually the mirror slides over the metal tab that is glued to the windshield. There is probably a small setscrew / grub screw that holds the mirror mount to the metal tab. If you have the correct size Allen / hex wrench you can probably reattach the mirror yourself. Don't resort to trying to glue the mirror on to the tab.
