81 F150 with 300 6, 4spd. Taillights are all messed up. Stay on.
So this is what started happening to me the day before yesterday. I came out of Walmart and noticed my right taillight was on and without the key in the ignition. Don't know if it's the blinker filament or the stop light filament. I moved the blinker lever on the steering column to the right turn position ...and the left taillight came on.
Blinkers don't work, regardless of key position.
I tried my brakes, but the brake lights don't work.
I pulled the emergency flasher switch in and out, but no change.
I pulled the taillight fuse out, no change. I then put it back in and pulled the emer. flasher fuse, taillights went out and blinkers started working normally again. Only problem was that the brake lights don't work.
I drove home on the backroads and then the freeway (about 30 miles) and used hand signals on the rare occasion (only four times) that I actually needed to indicate that I was stopping. Made it home without a ticket (although in daylight, it's legal to use hand signals only.)
Regardless, now I get to pull the steering wheel off and see what's going on with the blinker and emer. flasher switches, which are both probably worn out. I'm sure that the problem is in there. That is, unless anybody else has experienced the same kind of problem and knows the most likely reason this is happening?
TIA for any help anybody can offer.

Yeah, I did that. It didn't help any. I just spent the better part of the last hour looking for a wiring diagram online somewhere and of course, nothing is to be found. My Chilton's manual is no help either.

It's worth watching even if you don't need to pull the switch on your truck because the old boy doing it is pretty clever.

Well, I took out my turn signal-hazard switch and looked it over. I have exactly the same damage that the guy in the video I provided a link for has. Other than that, I don't see any other damage. I cleaned up the switch as best I could and will get the same part the guy in the video bought. Don't know if this will fix the problem though.
