Loose Shifter

Loose Shifter
The automatic shift lever on the column of my 78 F150 is quite loose and has a lot of play in it. Last night I noticed the pin that holds the lever in place is loose in the boss of the shift collar, the hole has been enlarged. Is there a fix or do I need to replace the collar?

Replace the collar. Trying to put an oversize pin in usually doesn't work because you would also need to enlarge the hole in the shifter.
There's also a good chance the "bridge" in the shift socket (that's what Ford calls the collar) is getting ready to break. This is a very common problem.

I'll second all of that .... replace it. There are threads on the site with pics and tips that can help.
