Drove '14 Ecoboost Lariat...

Boys, I shouldn't have tested a new truck. At dealer now, seeing wha' kind of deal they can make. I'm salesman's worst nightmare, make them think I'll buy, then don't. I just move real slow when it comes to parting with me lucres. Anyway, it's the first Ecoboost I've driven, they have this one that dealer drove for 1,000 miles left over. I'll see...

Oh, anything I need to know specifically about a '14? Long time member here, so I've probably read most stuff, that's one reason I'm interested in '14, haven't read many issues with them. Course, they are still fairly new, but it seems Ford has ironed out most issues...

While my '02 is in shop, I drove the '14 Lariat above, but they gave me a '13 5.0 as a loaner while mine is in shop. Wow, I do like the way the 5.0 drives! It has 37,500 miles on it, reckon it's a trade in. It's the extended cab, '14 Ecoboost is SuperCrew. Oh me, I love my '02, it almost seems like a mid size compared to the newer ones, but I'm liking wha' the modern world has! Well, y'all boys chime in. I could get the '14 Lariat Ecoboost for $39,400 plus my '02. New one is 4x4, 36 gallon tank, 3.31 differential, 3.5 Ecoboost. At least I'll get to drive the '13 5.0 for a few days this weekend. I'm even liking it a lot!

Nothing special about the '14 that I'm aware of, other than I just went from an '02 F250 PSD to a '14 150 EB Limited, and I love it. The upgraded amenities and creature comforts are what did it for me. That and I really didn't need a SuperDuty anymore.

Get the 2014 and spoil yourself. I really like the 3.31 axles, it's all anyone with an ecoboost needs if not towing heavy frequently.

If it were me I would treat the 14 with 1000 miles as a used vehicle and offer accordingly. Those could have been his teenage sons miles at redline. Blue book it, and offer the mid range condition (good?) trade in value + $1000 'cause it is purdy.

tax, I NADAed and KBBed it - no way would I offer what those two sites said!! On the low end, KBB has it at $47,000, NADA at $45,000. Equipped like it is. I've also researched online at other places and craigslist for '14s. From wha' I've seen so far, my '02 and the $39,000 seems like a fair deal. I probably won't get it, unless Ethyl is really for it, but she does't even know I looked! She just dropped me off to pick up loaner truck, the '13 5.0 I'm using now while mine is in shop...

Ah come on now. Just use the old "bring it home method. Remember it is better to do and ask for permission then to not do at all. Ethyl will be glad you did, she just doesn't know it yet. Hehe. Besides the new trucks are 1000 times better then those 97-02 trucks could ever dream to be. I know. I had one. And there honestly wasn't one thing that I could say that I really honestly did like about it. I only bought because it was what the wife wanted. But you like your 02. So for you it might be different. However if you do get the 13 or the 14 be sure to post pics.

Right on pared. I'm in the '13 5.0 loaner now. Nasty, smoke smelling mess that it is, I love that 5.0 feeling! Just driving around this small town a bit, it's showing 19.5 mpg. I reset thingamabob when I got it home so it'd show my driving old man style. And, after more research on that 1,000 mile '14, knuckahaids are trying to rip me off. Not nary $39k and my truck! List on sticker is $52,290. Discount scribbled on window is $9,500. Take ye calculator. Done. Nope! I'll probably just wait another year or two...

So they are offering just under 3800 for the 2wd 02. Correct. How many miles are on it. And how much are or were you expecting/hoping to get for the 02? I'd say figure that much out first. Then counter offer. And before you go back to the dealer find out what your credit score is, and what kind of interest rate you should be able to get. Not to mention what kind of realistic payment you want. Then make a counter offer based on all of that info. You've been wanting one of these trucks for along time now. And you can get some really sweet deals right now on the left over 14's. I do applaud you for taking the time to calculate and rationalize what and how bad you want one of these trucks. Not to many people do that anymore, then they end up regretting the rushed decisions they make later.

NASSTY, man, you know me too well! When I bought my current '02, it was spur o' the moment - after I saw it first time, I bought two weeks later.

My '02 is nice! Looks new. So, I've got to rethink this. Maybe the old boy's not ripping me so deep after all. About $3,800 plus the $1,700 in repair bill, then $39,400 for 1,000 mile '14 that's got so many new fangled thingamabobs on it, I can just call it like a trained horse, it does me bidding. Ethyl, Ethyl, get on board the train, we're leaving (right). Well, I do appreciate y'all's input...

Sorry the deal didn't work out Gene.

Not sure the specifics of your '02, but may only be worth around $4,000 to a trade, so I'm not sure they're lowballing you. I think the deal isn't bad, but your '02 is probably worth more to you than it is to them.

Unlikely, but that wouldn't hurt anything.

Exactly. I was a little butt-hurt over their trade offer at first, but I told them what I expected to have for an interest rate and what I wanted to pay. They made it work. I got a bit more for mine, but it was a SuperDuty in really good shape for its age.

I spent 23 years between new Ford trucks partly because I kept replacing the family vehicle every 5-6 years to keep it under warranty and reliable and partly because I didn't like the 97-03 models.

Then the 04 gen trucks came out and I had just jumped shoulder deep into a 2004 expedition for my wife. No need for two new trucks and payments to match.

My old '88 served me well over her 23 years and 250K miles. Sometimes it comes a point where emotional value and real value need to be better recognized. It took me a while to figure that one out.

While I say right now that I'll never buy another new truck, the new Fords are drop dead gorgeous and they'll only get better. You couldn't give me a 2014 truck right now, they already look out dated and Ford needs to get a little more aggressive on the incentives. Well, couldn't give me is pretty harsh, I'd take one for the right price.

same feelings here .....the '15s are nice (heck I bought one for a day ) but a fully loaded '14 at right price is extremely appealing to me now.......uuughh I need a hobby
