The class of the receiver is useless, its too vague of a rating, always go by the sticker or label on the receiver.

Regarding what the guy at the trailer place originally said, I see several possibilities:
1. He doesn't know what he's talking about.
2. He's lying in order to sell you something you don't need
3. There was mis-communication between the two of you
4. You have a non-factory receiver rated at only 5,000#

If it is 1 or 2, I would find a new trailer place. if it is 3, clarify some things. If it is 4, upgrade it.

What is meant by the term "hitch" could mean several things:
1. most appropriately, the 2" receiver mount, which if from the factory is probably rated at 12,500, not 5,000
2. The bumper ball mount, which is inferior to the receiver in capacity
3. The ball mount that slides into the receiver, which should have a rating stamped into it - many are rated quite low
4. The ball itself, again with a rating stamped into it
5. The combination of all of the above, which is limited by the lowest rating of the three

Always shop carefully for ball mounts and ***** paying close attention to their ratings, they are not all created equal.

Well I bought a beautiful NEW Aluminum Adjustable ball mount and attempted to put it in my OEM Hitch. I cleaned and greased the hitch and it was UGLY trying to get this thing in. I think its in the there for good.

I can do one of two things: 1) Forget about it and leave it in and use it 2) Bang it out carefully and get a new CURT hitch. I purchased this Nice adjustable so I can switch it between my two trucks and not have to have two. Now with this being stuck it kind of defeats the purpose.

If getting the ball mount in or out of the receiver is so difficult, it might be wiser to leave it in place and get a second one to keep with the other truck. The good thing is that the expensive one probably won't be stolen and a potential thief will waste time trying to remove it.

Be sure to check the rating of the mount and *****. My son-in-law bought a similar setup only to discover that its weight rating was well below what he needed for the larger boat he is rebuilding.

Yea I thought about getting another one instead of getting an entirely new hitch.

I guess my main question is once I remove this mount from the 2" reciever is there any ideas to clean up the inside that will work ?

Matt

Btw. Ya the mount is rated to 10k pounds with the 2 5/16" ball. I do landscaping

The wire brushing a greasing is the best idea I've read here, but it sounds like you did that already. Is it possible that the inside of the receiver is so pitted that it deformed the metal deep enough to reduce the size? You might also try wrapping some type of square stock in good sandpaper and scrubbing it that way.

Good thing you are rated for 10k, some of them are lighter duty than that even though they look substantial.

That is a prime example of what not to buy.

"Towing capacity for 1 7/8" ball is 7,500 lbs and 8,000 lbs for 2" ball."

Where this, for less money, is rated at 14,000 pounds:

I needed adjustability for different trailer heights. Reese sells one that's adjustable rated for 14k which was 40$ less. I liked the design of the Andersen aluminum.

If 2" receiver accessories are not fitting into your 2" receiver then something is wrong. Get a flashlight and look thru the receiver to determine the problem. The receiver could be damaged/bent or just corroded/pitted. I wouldn't just hammer a hitch into it and call it good. If it has been stressed enough to bend, the entire hitch is suspect for integrity.

Take a file or die grinder to the inside of the hitch and clean it up.

To get the hitch out, drop the spare tire and from the back side of the receiver bang out the hitch with a pipe or something similar.
