Odd But Good Change to 2015 Instrument Display..

This is strange. 1700 miles on my 2015. The display changed today. Normally I have my left side display showing the tach and gas gauge. Got in the car to drive home, and all of a sudden I see a vertical gear selector bar to the left of the fuel gauge. It's never been there before. I made no changes getting into the car, and the gears are 1 at the bottom up to 6 on the top, numbers are in white except the current gear which turns to red in a larger font. Only thing different today was to run the Expedition low on fuel. Drove it low to test the range, turned it off for 3 hours, started it back up, saw the gear selector bar, drove 10 miles to the gas station and topped it off with 24.0 gallons of gas.

Does everyone else see the gear selector bar? I with 1000% confidence know it was never there before, and it doesn't appear to be a selectable option as I scrolled through all the options trying to diagnose why it came on.

I like it.... not complaining, just odd to see it pop up.

thanks

Check page 198 of your owners manual. I suspect your have PRS (Progressive Range Selection) engaged.

Thank you Sir. I had not heard of that function. Gear selector in D and hit the "-" on the shift lever enters that mode. I see that gears can also be deselected with that function. Hit the "-" 2x and the transmission will only use gears 1-4. Interesting....

What other goodies am I missing?

do people have problems with the HVAC changing speeds a lot based on motor rpm and different temperatures? i'm not talking about sitting at a stop light in 110 degrees and the ac kicking off at idle.

it seems like the computer is seeking to do the right thing but takes a while to get dialed in. it seems like it switches between modes a lot.

Gonna dig through the owners manual to look for a cure to the one thing I dislike about the 2015, the trip meter. I like to view the tach in the left display and hate to have to toggle around to see the trip meter. Wonder if there is a way to either view the trip meter next to the small total vehicle milage, or change total vehicle mileage to trip. just don't like that I have to choose tach or trip.

If you hit the manual rocker switch when the transmission is on automatic mode, it will display that gear graphic. If you happen to rock the switch down, it will lock out the highest gear available each time you depress that button. By pressing the up button, you undo, the lockout.
I like seeing what gear the trans has selected, so i typically trip it if it resets.
