Hi folks I am having problems finding out info on a truck I just bought, the only numbers I can find is a serial number under the hood on the passenger side firewall and every web site I can enter in says it needs more numbers. So here it is 97HC- 281614-DI can someone help me?

That's because, 'every website' you've been to is looking for a 1981 and newer vehicle with a 17 digit VIN number.
Welcome to FTE, the best darn place for info and help with your 'new' to you truck. Congratulations is in order for using the proper term, as it is indeed a SERIAL number, so here goes...
9= 1949 or 1950
7H= flathead 6 cylinder 226 cu in engine
C= F1 1/2 ton pick up truck 6' bed
281641= Serial number this high number should indicate a 1950 model
DI= Dallas, Texas Assembly plant
That is the Patent Data Tag on the firewall, the same number should also be on the Rating plate on the inside of the Glove box Door and also Stamped in the Passenger side frame rail near the radiator.
You should also be able to locate some other numbers stamped in the upper middle part of the firewall, these will tell you more about the original color and build date.
