Well got some good news today. When i went to the yard yesterday i found a 95 Taurus that had an almost new looking 3G. I looked closer and it has a sticker that says "REMY NEW". I dont have any experience with this brand but it seemed like whoever had the car just put a new alternator before it got scrapped.

Took it to get it tested and it passed! He tested it 3 times and it was good. It seemed like i would never find one that worked. Now its time to cut that nub off, reclock it, and bolt that sucker up.

Thanks for all the help hopefully it all works when put together

Well i attempted to reclock it last night. I took the regulator out and pinned the brushes. I took the 3 screws out and tapped off the rear case. When i started to gently pry up the middle wire windings it seemed like everything was going great. Then i noticed that the wire winding was not coming up with the top part. The black plastic piece with all the wires is still inside the case but the portion on top came up. I wasnt prying it hard or anything? Dont know why they wouldve seperated but now im lost.

From taking a closer look at the pictures it seems as though that black plastic piece with all the wires goes all the way through the case and i should be able to drive it out from the front? Is that the case or will that damage it?

I would really like to keep this one because its almost brand new and ive already cut off the nub.

it's hard to tell in that pic, but if the top piece you circled is off and the rest is still in the case, go get another alternator, you broke that one.

maybe take a pic of YOUR alt

The tan part (with the diodes) of your rectifier is riveted to the black aluminum piece below it. The rectifier assembly slips on top of the stator and the stator leads pass up through the slots and gets brazed/soldered to rectifer.(tan part) There may be a small amount of movement between the rectifier assembly and stator when the alternator is not bolted together. When the alternator is assembled eventhing is held into place.

If the rectifier is not cracked anywhere and the leads of the stator are still intact, including where they are soldered to the rectifier, you should be ok.

Well its loose but it is still attached to everything. It is not off the cases. All the wires are still attached and there was never a crunching or snapping sound. I didnt force anything i just gently pryed on it at the bolt holes. I didnt break anything. I know because i was worried about doing this for that reason. I took my time and was easy on it

If i push up any further you can see where its not connected to the black part inside. I didnt because i didnt want to force it. Everything seems to be intact. I dont know what to do from here. If this one is savable id like to

the easiest way to take that out is hold the case upside down and lightly tap around the case with a small hammer. the whole assy will slide out.

Thanks for that i tried it but to no success. I dont have a vice at the moment so its been a pain trying to do this myself. In trying to tap it out i broke the rectifier a little bit.

I called a local alternator and generator repair shop and he said hed put the new one on for 18 bucks and reclock it for free. And it would only take a half hour. I should have just done this in the first place. Hopefully this should be the last step before enjoying a 3G

Well i have some good news. I finally have a working almost brand new 3G. Clocked the way i want and ready to bolt up.

After taking it to the little alternator shop the guy fixed the rectifier and clocked it for me for a whopping $5! I wish I had known about him in the first place. He will definitely be getting any of my business from now on

Thanks for all the help. Especially to HIO

Is it bad if the back of the case is just BAAARELY touching the block? Or is the case grounded to the engine anyway?
