Quick valve cover question

Going to check for bits of valve seal plugging the oil channels. When I remove the valve cover do I have to replace the gasket, or can I reuse it? If/when I have the valve seals replaced, I WILL replace the gasket. But, I'd rather not replace it twice.

Thank you.

I use rubber gaskets, and they are reusable. Cork gaskets not so much.

It all depends on the condition of the gasket. If the cork is broken or cracked or distorted it should be replaced. If the rubber is hard or broken or distorted it should be replaced. Using an adhesive on the cover side and a bond breaker on the head side will probably produce the best chance to reuse.

Follow Up Question

New valve cover gasket installed. Pretty easy, even for me.

I did notice a slight green tint to the oil in one of the sumps. It was anti-freeze, obviously.

What does the presence of anti-freeze in the valve chamber indicate? Assuming a bad gasket somewhere else, but which one? Or something else.

Head gasket seems most likely. Not sure if the FE has a wet intake - if so, remote possibility there too.
