Transfer case broke in half. 2000 excursion v10

Having problems. Transfer case broke in half, I think it is because of the auto free wheeling hubs. Is it possible to manual hubs on it?

To answer your question, yes, you can put manual hubs on it. I run Warn Premiums. Yukon has some nice ones. There are plenty of options out there.

To address your problem, your hubs did not cause your transfer case to break in half. You have a problem somewhere.

I have read elsewhere in the superduty world that runnng with hubs engaged all the time can contribute to this exploding transfer case thing. You are not the only superduty to have one blow apart. I don't believe one way or the other as it hasn't happened to me. I have not heard a definitive cause yet, but ford switched fluids in them at one point.

also, if you change your thread title to "my transfer case broke in half" then add some pictures for us to jaw drop at, you will get a much larger response. Oh and I almost forgot; Welcome to the forums!

Dang, that's broke. Sorry for your loss. Before I replace the transfer case, I'd find out for sure what caused that.

Well.. Some have suggested that the tcase possibly tried to shift into 4low uncommanded while driving. Others suggest the fluid is to blame by making the aluminum weak. Most just change the broken case and move on. Hopefully that's your only issue. I would replace the tcase, replace all ujoints and have the driveshafts checked for issues, then switch to manual hubs and you should hopefully be good to go.

oh yeah, and make sure your engine mounts, trans mounts etc are good. One of those being broken can stress things as I have broken tailshaft housings on AOD trans before due to bad engine mount allowing movement. Just something else to check.

Dammm. It did break in half. Thats nuts man. If they do switch randomly to 4wd low, manual hubs i think would be the fix

Wow, that's a catastrophic fail. If I may ask, how many miles on the truck?
