Question re: ZF 5S-47
This trans was produced from 1996-99, from what I gather. Also, after searching the internet, it appears that the ZF was not an option on the 10th gen F-series (1997-2003). So, does that mean that if I want a ZF 5S-47, the only F-series truck it comes on are the 1996's?

And also in some RARE cases the 1999 Superduty
But I don't understand why you want a S-47?

You mean as compared to a S-42, or the original M50D-R2? Well, I'll explain both, and maybe you can tell me if my logic is flawed. The synchros in my M50D-R2 are going bad, so I will need to either re-build it, or pay someone to rebuild it, or get a different trans at a junk yard. If I rebuild it myself, it will cost about $230 for parts (Bronco Graveyard). On top of that, I've never done it before, and there is a chance I might not do it correctly - I have gone through the manual and just don't have a lot of confidence. If I pay someone to rebuild it, it will be over $1000 ( I got two estimates, cheapest was $1000). Or, I could get a different one at a junkyard. the local junkyard charges $400 for transmissions. Yes, I could very well buy one, install it, and it could go bad in a year, and put me back at square one. I guess I'm willing to take that chance as it's the cheapest way to get out of this with the confidence of having a working trans. I guess I like the 47 more because it has a lower first and reverse gear. It's more heavy duty than the M50D-R2 - not that I do a lot of towing, but the straight 6 does put out a fair amount of torque, so I'm thinking the more heavy duty, the better. So, after having read my dilemma, what is your suggestion?

The s42 has the SAME gear ratios as the s47
And buying a used trans is kinda a crapshoot unless you have driven the truck it came from or it is Guaranteed to have good syncs
Justa FYI, you can buy a reman M5OD for $650 M5OD Transmission Sale | M5R2, M5ODR2, Bronco, F150, F250
As for getting junk yard ZF5 for $400, you should buy EVERYONE they will sell you then go and sell them for $600 each
