OT - Brag on myself a little

Well, I had to tell my FTE family about this exciting news.
My username is Harrier which is another term for a Cross Country runner.

Today I was notified that I will be inducted into the University of Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame Inaugural Class. There are 22 athletes being inducted representing each sport. I will be representing Cross Country.

Looking at the other inductees, I don't feel worthy of the honor.
Here is the press release:
22 Named to University of Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame Inaugural Class - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

Here are some of the accolades of this group:
The inductees also excelled internationally and in the professional ranks. Eight members of the inaugural Hall of Fame class were Olympians, competing in a combined 19 Olympic Games and winning 15 Olympic Medals, including five Gold Medals. Among the major professional sports, Gordon, Piatkowski and Rimington were all first-round draft picks. Gordon enters his ninth year in Major League Baseball in 2015 as a two-time all-star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner. Piatkowski enjoyed a 14-year NBA career, while Rimington played seven seasons in the NFL.

I am a bit player in that group that's for sure.
If I had Alex Gordon's salary my build thread sure would look different.
The Rimington award named after Dave Remington is the equivalent of the Heisman trophy for college offensive centers.

It's extra special since my daughter is now running for Nebraska. Needless to say, it's been an exciting day.

Good for you! From what you're saying, it sounds like they aren't just handing these awards out. You should be proud, and I'm glad you let us know!

That is very cool, Joe. Someone must have thought you did good, but you left that part out of your bragging. Did you earn a special award during your competing years? What were your accomplishments? Congratulations!

Joe, my wife tells me that all the time, but I don't think it is in a positive way.

Way to go, Joe. It is good that they are inducting an athlete from every sport for the inaugural class. And it is hard to believe that a school as renown form athletics like Nebraska does not have a HOF already.

You are worthy just like every other athlete there, you sweated, trained, bled, and worked hard for your sport. Heck, if there was professional Cross Country you would have had a big fat contract! But then you could have paid someone to fix up your truck and then you would not have known us great and wonderful guys!

What events did Charlie Green do in Track?

Well since you guys have asked, below are my accomplishments. The only reason I have this info together is because my jersey was retired at my high school a few years ago and recently they wanted this info to put in the display case. The secretary harassed me until I put this info together.

• High School
o 3rd fastest Cross Country 5k time in Missouri history (15:01)
o School Records held since 1986
 1600M 4:12
 3200M 9:06.2
 5000M 15:01
o Only Missouri athlete to qualify for Foot Locker national cross country championships twice (1984, 1985)
o 3 time District Cross Country champion (1983,1984,1985)
o 2 time Sectional Cross Country champion (1984,1985)
 All-Sectional team (1983)
o 2 time All-State Cross Country (1984, 1985)
o 2 time State Champion Track 3200M Run (1985, 1986)
 8th place State Track 3200M Run (1984)
o 3 time Track District champion 3200M (1984, 1985, 1986)
o 2 time Track District champion 1600M (1985, 1986)
o 2 time Track Sectional champion 3200M (1985, 1986)
o Track Sectional champion 1600M (1986)
• College – University of Nebraska
o 2 time Division 1 All-American Cross Country (1988, 1989)
o Division 1 All-American Track & Field in the 3000M Steeplechase (1989)
o 2 time Big-8 Champion 3000M Steeplechase (1989,1990)
o 3 time All Big-8 Cross Country (1988, 1989, 1990)
o Nebraska Outdoor 5000M record holder 13:51.35 (1990)
o Nebraska Outdoor Steeplechase 2nd all time 8:34.45
o 3 time qualifier for the US Track & Field Championships (1989, 1990, 1993)
o All-American US National Cross Country Championships 18th (1990)
o 13th fastest 300M Steeplechase time in the USA in 1990

My senior year in track I was the top ranked Collegiate Steeplechaser. In the finals of the national championships, I fell and hit a barrier 2 1/2 laps into the race and couldn't finish. That sucked....My senior cross country season, I was a top 5 or 10 pick. But I had a terrible race. At least I made up from that race by getting 18th at the US Championships 5 days later.

Good memories. I have always had so much fun competing and seeing how far I could push myself. (Hence, being crazy enough to tackle a frame off restoration with ZERO experience. )
I appreciate all the good words guys. I still can't believe it.

Well done...makes me wonder how many other members have non-truck related talents/accomplishments.
