low on power at high rpm

i bought a new to me truck selling my 00 with an 01 motor ext cab auto and getting a 01 crew lb mt.

i bought the truck with 220 on it and the poppet valves were worn to .001 and 1 injector was 0 or close to it. 2 reman injectors, the truck was completely stock and i bought it from the original owner. i got it shimmed the injectors with .002 shims from mcmaster carr. straight piped it, 6637 air filter, new luke ceramic clutch, original owner had a new bosch hpop, turbo center section (the compressor wheel seems to have some dusting on it), and injector orings 50,000 miles ago, and dp tuner with the 140 hp aggressive tune. i have talked with jody (great customer service) and have decided to step down to the 80 tow tune with some throttle adjustments, and sealed up all ext. leaks.

my old truck with a k&n, 4" exh., and juice with attitude on 37's had allot more pulling power i hooked my crawler up to it this last weekend and headed to the coast, a hill i could usually gain speed up to 10-15 mph in a 3-400 yrd stretch with my old truck i could barely stay the same speed with my new truck on stock tires. my fuel pressure drops to 54 lbs at wot, my ebp sensor reads around 50 at wot, im hitting 30-32psi of boost (old truck was 25psi max), the on thing i see limiting power is the icp hits 1200psi max - 85% ipr on a wot hpop test run (stock will hold 3200psi - 32% ipr). this is why im going to the 80 hp tow tune. my old truck would only hold 900psi??? it seems that once i go over 10psi of boost it does not feel like it pulls any harder from 10-30psi, and once i hit 2200 rpm it will not pull any harder (kinda acting like a cummins, all the power is down low) im kinda lost as to why it is not pulling harder than my old truck. and would like to find out why i dont have more power, it s driving me up a wall.

sorry for the long story, and jumbled mess i have. any help is greatly appreciated. i can get any readings you need on the truck just let me know

Rebuilt HPOP's like your Bosch have a reputation of not working out too well long term. We've seen many failures where they would build acceptable pressure while cranking, but weren't able to provide enough flow. Seems like I recall one with a no start condition that could build around 3,000 psi while cranking, but if you disconnected the HPOP hose while cranking oil would only dribble out.

Obviously your best bet is to find someone close by with the same motor that would let you swap HPOP's for some test runs. Otherwise it's a $$$ gamble that you get to take.

If you decide to replace it, I'd suggest one of the reputable aftermarket suppliers that offer increased performance over the stock application. Not necessarily for the increased performance, but because they have a better track record than the parts store rebuilt units.

What are you using to read/datalog your ICP, Duty Cycle, sensors , etc..? If you have AE you could post a pic of the graphing of these PID's.

But from you explanation it sounds like the extra FIPW in the tuning is getting the best of your setup.

I did some testing on the way to work. I don't like doing this but oh well, I didn't let warm up this morning and got on it 3 min after initial start up, usually these have slightly less power with the ebpv closing which I could hear mine starting to close. My oil psi never fell below 1800 and it pulled allot harder than normal about like my old truck. So I think I will get the 80t put on the chip and bump it back up to the 120tune after the t500 gets put in.

What power/chip setting were u testing in this morning?

Don't jump the gun too fast and buy the 80e until you know what ICP the tune you were testing in was calling for and what your pump was able to feed. Especially if that will be your only prograkm to run.

You can go through the settings in Torque Pro to set up logging for each PID you monitor. Once you have a log, you can share it here - but there's a process to go through to get the data across the forum.

How does the truck do with a stock tune? What happens if you have the 80 or 120 tune in place and you give it about 2/3 throttle instead of going to the floor?

By the way... stock injectors only have a 60-65 HP reserve above stock HP. A 60 or 65 HP tune would not need modifications to the truck to get that bump.

I only have a single tune, I don't want a ****, for the simple fact my old truck the chip was set on extreme with the low boost fueling on high. I never touched it. I was on the 140 HP aggressive tune stock I hold 3300 psi or around there at wot. Its in the 3000 psi range no lower, With 35-40% ipr. I talked with Jody a couple weeks ago and need to send my chip back for mods no matter what, but he's damanding icp at 3200psi wot. In that tune. I will try to figure out data longing tonight. What pid's would you like me to moniter besides rpm, ICP, IPR, ebp, inj. Pw?

I also was thinking that maybe the injectors being as a shim them are letting oil pass whenever they open, up through the cylinoide because its not seating on the top seat Lowering my ICP pressure?

Im confused now - it's easy to do......

What tune were you running this morning? What was the ICP & DC like?

If you could datalog:

ICP
Duty cycle %
Fuel Inj Pulse width
Mass fuel desired
Speed (MPH)

A good run from 55-90 mph, roll the throttle & don't let her downshift .

If you can remember in the morning, before you start your truck:
look at your Baro sensor, Manifold Air Press & Exhaust back press sensors. All should be within .2-.4 psi of each other.

Tugly might chime in to add a couple of more parameters to watch - 😎

Will do I'll post those in the a.m. and its a 6 speed so no worries on downshifting.. I was in the 140 agg. Tune its the only one I got ( I have a single pos. Dp f5) my IPR was 85% and ICP was 1200. Didn't look at volts to ipr

ok figured it out just got back from a run. if i barrely give the truck throttle (1/8-1/4) it will pull much harder than wot. as soon as i get past a certain point it feels like an anchor is thrown out behind me and the truck doesn't want to climb freely in rpm.

rpm ipr icp mfd pw mph
