Excursion Purr

New to the forums, came to seek out some aid in giving my X some deeper grunt.

I have a 2005 6.8 v10 Eddie B, and I feel as if it deserves some more sound muscle.
I thought about installing a Flowmaster, it provides that deeper growl that I've seen in some youtube videos, however I don't like anything else but the growl. I feel as if it will quickly become loud and too aggressive, I merely have an interest of giving it a deeper hum, but not anything too insane.

I'm gonna reference this video, just for the startup! Go to 0:12

I really enjoy the startup, however if you wait to hear him rev it, I just don't dig it.

Is there anything I can do to obtain this similar startup and purr without the aggressive acceleration sounds?

Welcome to the Ex family Quartzores! You have found the BEST place on the web for EX info and advice!

That video is from a member here, though I haven't seen Scott post in a while now.
I have been looking at the Aeroturbine 3030XL for my V-10, I like it's sound and others have reported that it is not prone to drone, which is very important to me as we do a lot of highway towing. Here is a video I found from a quick search, it only had the sound at idle though, no revs.

Have you already addressed the far more important exhaust choke points on the V-10? Swap out the stock exhaust manifolds (with their broken studs) for nice long tube headers and a real Y pipe, in place of the factory T shaped pipe. Those changes will unleash more from the V-10 then any muffler ever will!

Tom, you've got a video on here of what yours sounds like don't you? If I remember right, yours was pretty mild mannered as far as performance exhaust noise goes?

Looks like an interesting thread is going to start here, I also ran the banks headers on my v10... She sounds mild until you stomp on her.

I don't have any vids or sound clips of mine (yet....). I do run the Banks headers and Y pipe with the rest of the exhaust (including a functioning cat) still factory stock. Still sounds very mild with like Michael said just a little bit of extra rumble when throttled hard.
I do plan to swap in an Aeroturbine 3030XL (the one with the extra internal resonator), I will get some sound recordings before and after the swap for both idle and under load comparison.

So I found a couple of Youtube Videos for ya, here's Extreme to mild (IMO) I tried to keep the videos stuff that said what they had on them. All the cred for these videos goes to the original posters. I just found them here and on youtube.

I am planning on doing an exhaust, so I've been watching a lot of youtube videos. It's kinda tricky to judge the sound, and what changes based on the audio clips. It might clue you into kinda what direction you are headed. I've come to really like what I have been hearing in the video clips of headers.

V-10 "open headers" , for funzies.

Larger exhaust, details in discription

Headman headers and flowmaster

Dual Flowmasters

Annndddd for poop and giggles:

I've got the dynomax super turbo on mine and its still mild with some grunt to it. I tow 90% of the time and have not had drone at all. Define lately still mild, wife is happy but I might like a bit more. I also had a real Y-Pipe done at the same time.

Glad to help! Let us know what you decide to go with if you make a choice!

I'll update here once I pull the trigger on the headers and Y-Pipe. I will also break out the "High Tech" condenser mics and try to get some really high quality before and afters.

Love the Aeroturbine

I've had an Aeroturbine 3030 for about three years now. Haven't posted any sound clips because I can't get my wife to hang out the back hatch at speed to get the best sound clip . . .

No resonation but a nice growl at start-up and idle without sounding like a ricer

I put the Banks Power Pack on ours. At the part where I was supposed to reinstall the nasty rusty stock piece, I had a shiny new pipe bent. We had a terrible drone and installed a flowmaster 40 in that new pipe. It's better, but the drone isn't gone. Maybe the 3030XL replacing the 40 would stop the drone. I'm not complaining about the Banks system, others that use the stock piece don't have drone.

Thanks George, That sounds like all of the other 3030 reports I have read, is yours an XL model or the one without the extra chamber?
