New to me...........

Well Ive had a V-10 , wore out a 7.3 still got a 6.4 and just bought a 6l.

How can I tell if the head bolts and EGR has been done on the 6L?

It has 240,000 kms (144,000 miles) on it, hoping its already been done.
Its a 2003

On the front of the heads, beside valve covers there are some head bolts showing, they have bolts or nuts on a stud? EGR you will have to look at the intake for a plugged in EGR and see if you see the EG cooler of the exhaust or if it was deleted. Look at the coffee table in the tech folder for your year.

Look under the degas tank for a stud or bolt. Here is a picture of a stud.

Then, if you look behind the hot side CAC tube you will see the EGR cooler in the other picture. The part with the hand written numbers on it, is the EGR cooler. Some have done a "Stealth delete". Only way to tell on those is to remove it and look.

There is coffee table books in the tech folder. They come originally with TTY bolts, you want studs with the nuts on there for upgrade.

Correct, head studs are turned into the hole, the nut is torqued down on the stud. In theory, better holding power than a bolt, which the head stretches to a yield point when torqued down.

You can see it by watching iat2 sensor and egr valve actual position pids. Iat2 temp will rise when the valve opens if the system is functioning. If the valve opens and iat2 does not change egr is blocked. Before doing this test clean the iat2 sensor. Iirc it is in the intake manifold behind the oil filter.
