Unless things have changed drastically (for the good) since I retired from USAF, you'll more than likely be invited to explore this with a civilian attorney.

Use a picture editor like Photoshop or the (free) GIMP and change the files to JPEGs.

Then you can save them at Photobucket or other photo hosting site.

I only have 31000 on my 2005 F350. You got me all worried now!

I too am retired from the USAF.......Not thinking the JAG will be a lot of help other than to tell you get a civilian "slip & fall"

I would definitely file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General though.

The trans problem could very well be coincidental (although suspicious) , but the STC fitting change is not all that complicated.

14100 bill should be a complete rebuilt beefed up trans and a complete delete/bulletproof job and labour and maybe a nice set of aftermarket wheels and tires lol. I cant wait to see your invoice..

What a HORRIBLE deal!!!!

Wonder if the branch tube got cracked,, or was cracked,, and the heads had to come off,, then the transmission was dropped and broken during the rear cover removal??? $14k would get an engine out total reseal with studs and lifters and a transmission. It might be enough to rebuild the engine too.

I just finished a total oil reseal job with lifters and studs and a couple injectors, thorough flush, coolant pump, oil cooler, all hpo upgrades, 08 mirrors, ect, ect,, n it was about $9200.

Seems way too high, I'm by no means a diesel mechanic but Im close with the two reputable diesel mechanics in my area (one a 7.3 guru and the other a 6.0/6.4 guru) and from what I've heard from them you could have rebuilt the engine and gotten a bullet proof trans for that price.

Agreed....

-They marked up the labor on the STC fitting job to $2000?!?

-They could have cleaned the EGR valve with carb cleaner per the TSB and installed the new orings and gasket. (did this yesterday on a friend's '03)

-The unison ring on the turbo more than likely could have been cleaned, again per the tsb cleaning procedure.

-Although I've rarely seen it, the branch tube might bend once the fitting comes apart, but again I've rarely seen a branch tube on an '05-'07 that had to be replaced unless the fitting violently blew out and cracked the rear cover.

The receipt says they cracked a running board. So what other damage on the receipt was their fault. Also,,, they replaced the branch tube without pulling the heads. I bet it's doable,, but I've yet to try it.

When I was a Ford Service Manager I would have balked at the tech and service adviser on this one maybe that is why I got out of the business.

The tranny core has been sent back, if it was dropped and cracked they would not get the core credit. It would be interesting to read the tech's hard copy of the RO, hours clocked and parts notes. Also what is the book time for this job and how was it calculated?

The STC fitting breaking the Branch tube I get. The transmission is fishy, but without knowing what happened its hard to say. Once after doing 10k worth of work on a 6.4 I test drove it and the front pump gear came apart in the trans. The rest of the transmission looked awesome, it was a 79k mile truck and I wasn't doing anything abusive on the test drive. It just happened to break on me. Of course they blamed me, it just had to be my fault it broke while I was driving it. So I can somewhat understand that.

But how in the hell do they come up with $1925 labor on the trans? Even on a 4x4 R&R on a 5R110 is 6 hours. I would like to know where the rest of that is being spent

Other thing is the almost $600 EGR cooler is a rip off when you can get a BPD cooler for under $400.

Teardown, diagnosis and reassembly time on the tranny?

They charged him enough labor to have rebuilt it. Taking it apart, finding out what broke and jamming it back in the case to ship it back as a core is 2 hours max. Being that he bought a whole tranny from them that 2 hours shouldn't have been charged either.
