fuel water separator location

Just read I need to clean it every couple of months. Where is it? Had this truck for 10 years and don't know if it's ever been done. No results for a thread search or in how-to's

Assuming you bought it new it would be an 05 or 06' and I believe only the diesels have them. It is on the frame rail about where the driver seat is. It also houses one of two fuel filters. If you've gone ten years without a filter change and no issues go play the lottery!

it's a '99 7.3L

The thread I read said "DRAIN the fuel water separator" Do you know where that is done on a 1999? I bought this from my son, who purchased it new. I just recently replaced every filter in the fuel supply system, the in-line filter, on the frame, looked so dirty I thought it was OEM. But it was still running great, just not great on milage. Rebuilding injectors has improved that to about 18 mpg. I have a SuperChip; would that get me better milage if I kept my foot out of it?

Water separator is under the hood in the middle of the motor. It is round and has the filer/water separator under it. Behind the bowl is a little yellow handle that turns towards the drivers side, this opens the valve and drains whatever moisture has built up out first. A tube is connected and goes down behind the motor to the ground, you should do that ever time you change the fuel/water filter also

Go here and download the "coffee table book" for your engine....it will help you locate other things you might have a question about

Thank you guys, for the useful info. I remember taking the top off this when my 1994 F350 diesel was running poorly, to make sure it had fuel in it. I had no idea it was a moisture separator. THANKS!
