2008 Expedition idling very rough
Hello --
We have a 2008 Expedition EL...113,000 miles. When I first drive it in the morning it's fine until about 30 minutes in then starts idling/shaking when moving slowly (imagine car drop off line) or a stop light after progressing in traffic. I can throw it into neutral/park and tap the accelerator and it will stop. The RPMs don't drop and maintain at about 1000. Dealership is telling us a new engine...followed up by several calls gauging our interest in a new car. We've also been told timing belt and/or tensioners. Is it fixable? What should ball park prices be? Please and thanks.

First thing, is hook up a code reader
I recently had the heater hose leak, which filled the passenger side plugs with coolant
After I fixed the leak, I had a very rough idle and it would not drive very well
No engine light, but it had a code for misfire on cyl 1.
I replaced that coil and then it had misfire on cyl 2.
Same again then misfire on cyl 4.
These cylinders were ones filled with water
After replacing them, the truck is smooth again.
In summary, check the codes, could be a simple fix
Let us know what code is shown

To me, it definitely sounds like an oil pressure issue. It could be a blown timing chain tensioner seal leaking the oil pressure down, causing the VCT to not set properly back to idle position, causing the engine to be out of time. Could also be a bad VCT solenoid if the oil pressure happens to not be the problem. Let us know what your codes are (if any).

If by manifold you mean the intake manifold, then I would suspect that the gasket is not sealing properly and you're getting a massive air leak.
