84 xl f150 build (probably slowly)
theres a little back story to this build i have recently turned 16 and my dad sold the truck he promised me due to financial issues so i allowed it that truck was a 1977 ford f150 4x4 step side 4 speed 400M truck i loved it but life gets in the way so i started searching the internet for a newer short bed 2wd or 4x4 and then one day it clicked my friend has a brown and tan ford in her back yard i should ask about it
long story short i got a price and looked it over really well only one cab corner is a issue heres the only pictures i have from looking at it
long story short and $400 later this happened
thats my bud kyle but anyway i was the proud owner of a 1984 ford f150 XL 302/AOD truck and I've been over everything and the only things i can see and i know need replaced is the battery and starter (already replaced ign system and starter solenoid) if anyone can give me help with it id appreciate it but I'm looking to get it running and do a 4x4 swap but all factory parts thanks for looking y'all!

If that is all of the rust you have, then you are in good shape. I have spent four years on my build, but it has been pretty extensive. WE are here to help. Be sure to check rubber parts like bushings as they may be dry rotted. Once you get it to run and move, you will find out what, if anything is wrong.

alright I've come up with a parts list
radiator
carb
starter
battery
fuel pump
belts
brake master cylinder
tires
and oil and trans fluid changes
totals out to 300$ roughly thats with buying a used carb from the scrap yard if i bought a remans it'll total to 650
am i going to come out clean and make some cash or am i boned?

To be honest you may never get out of it what you put into it. There on some guys on here that have dropped 10K plus and who knows if they could even break even. Of course if you find the right buyer that has to have it they will pay more than most. I'm sure when I get done with mine I'll be over 10k in it but I plan on being buried with it.
If you don't plan on keeping it long and just put enough in it to keep it from falling apart or getting worse rust wise then you could break even or make a little.

Just due to their nature, automobiles are not usually investments. you can flip them, but the lower the mileage, the more money you can recover from them. Now, at the price you paid plus the cost of parts, and if you do the work yourself, you'll have like $700 plus your man-hours of work in it. you will have a classic worth maybe a couple thousand (give or take). So yeah, you can make money off it, but if you fall in love with the truck, you should keep it. I have sold several vehicles I wish I would have or could have kept.
