89 F-150, blue exhaust smoke and then some...
Purchased an 89 F-150 with a built 351w from a small local dealer, after driving it a week I noticed it went through 5 qrts of oil. I brought it back to the dealer and his mechanic found a bad ring and a crack in one of the heads, all rings were replaced and the head was replaced along with a klutch kit. NOW here comes the problems. I just picked it up 5 hours ago and drove it around quite a bit, first thing I noticed is this completely random loud "GUNK" sound which seems to be comming from near the transmission, could be in the engine, could be something with the exhaust. It only seems to do this when its cold and does it at random (at idle, when excellerating, maintaining and descellerating). Also it still seems to be burning oil out the exhaust but not as bad. I only see bluish smoke when getting on the gas hard and a little at idle. Is there any kind of break in period that new rings have to go through? Any info you could give me will help. I'm on my way back to the dealer first thing in the mourning to bring all this to his attention .

UPDATE: I spoke with the dealer this morning and he explains to me that the rings never were changed! Apparently when they found the crack in the head around the valve stem seal they thought that was the only problem, seeing that engine had a fresh rebuild not to long ago they assumed the rings were fine. He wants me to give it a couple weeks and see if it gets better, explaining to me that there could be oil build up in the exhaust that might be burning off still. The engine seems to run fine, for now I'm keeping an eye on the oil level and pressure and will be speaking with the mechanic who did the actual work.
