External Temp display is not working correct. Please help

So I just bought a 2012 F250 with 28,300 on the clock. I was driving it home yesterday (500 miles) and I noticed that everytime I shut the truck down the external temp display would display -40 F at start up and then gradually climb to whatever the ambient temp is, around 60F but in that 500 mile distance it seemed to be stuck at whatever the high was and not drop unless I stopped the truck and powered it off and we would start at -40 again.
Anyone have any idea as to where I should start troubleshooting this? I have some factory powertrain warranty left but this will not fall under that so I need to fix it myself and there is nothing in the owners manual about this.

Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me.

Oh it is a crew cab long box, with the 6.2, XL package but has all of the benefits of an XLT it just has vinyl floors.

Thanks guys.

I know this is a minor deal, but I would like it to work properly, and when I use the remote start in the summer if it says it is -40 outside the cab will be 200f when I get in hahaha

What I would do is post this in the SD forum to get more views but keep both threads active.

Like a lot of computers, sometimes it helps to reboot them.. I would try this.. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery for a few minutes and reconnect..

I think there is more too it than that. I noticed my RH mirror is also not working, wondering if they are connected issues.

I would start with disconnecting battery, its fast and easy, and who knows, you might get lucky. Just be aware, transmission may feel little fanny for 40-60 miles, has to go through relearning process. I might be wrong, but, I think, outside temp. sensor is in R-side mirror.

That fixed it. I bet they had the door panel off when they tinted the windows and didn't get it snapped all the way together. All is working now. That sensor is in the mirror
