Thanks for the comments guys.

The lights were ordered out of LMC book and we were a bit alarmed at the size of the lights when we received them (large).

Ultimately it's my son's decision, I told him we can wait until the truck is back together with it's regular wheels/tires, the new mirrors, the new OEM type wheel arch moldings, the new black paint etc... set them back up there and see how it looks.

I'm spraying hi build urethane surfacing primer this morning on the bed sides and doors.

Then I have to get back to work on a paying job, because I'm not making any money working on this truck! lol!

rebuilding the unitized frame in a 69 Mach 1 sounds funner than it really is.

Yeh, those lights just look out of place on these trucks imo. If he has to have cab lights I'd try to talk him into the stock-style clearance lights...I think they'd look much better!

I know that job stinks, but do you really need an air freshener? LOL

When we started with the car it was needed, it has since become a fire hazard so its gone now. Lol.

We ordered these because they looked so awesome in the photos.

When we got them yesterday we were very surprised how large they were.

Here, I'll post a pic of one next to an OE style light on a different 77 pickup.

Because of the arch in the base plate, the new lights will have to be positioned further ahead to match the crown of the roof.

We will set them on the roof for the hell of it after paint and reassembly.

If he likes them I'll put them on for him, if he don't, I'll send em back I guess.

Not those lights.

Those are not even close to the originals. If he likes them, great but, if I were him, I'd get a set of the originals or repros that are closer in size.

We still can't believe how freaking huge they are, lol!

Its like.... We were expecting a shot glass size and they sent a quart mason jar.

Anyways....

Couple coats of surfacing primer.

We'll go right to 400 grit with long boards now and I might wet sand to 800 before laying the base down, we'll see how it blocks out first.

I did.

I'm an animal!

(And old, smelly, gray haired..... Slow animal)

I sanded the tailgate to 400 grit, thinking I may try the base and clear on this, see if the base will cover 400 grit scratches.

I vote no on the big cab lights. Maybe some stock sized ones with the lenses smoked to match the black would look cool. As long as you have a good sealer and your primer was cured out so no shrinking you should be good to go on the 400 grit I would think.

Eagerly Waiting for Base!

I'm all about that Bass! JK.
That truck is coming together very nicely. Your Son will respect it much more as he has lots of "Sweat Equity" invested in it. I have a black 77 F250 and I was going to take a picture of the cab lights for you guys but I started mowing and by the time I remembered, it was dark. Ill try again tonight.

Cant wait to see the future progress. Keep up the great work!

Thanks.

Yeah I've been on this mustang for a couple days now so haven't got anything new done on the truck.

G'damn unibody is bad in many areas and I'm dissecting soft, cancerous areas out of the structure and replacing with new sections.

Its not fun at all, I'd rather be working on the truck.

My boy will be off school tomorrow and Monday, so we should make some decent progress this weekend!

You should absolutely be fine on sealer(catalyzed) over 400 g.sanded, cured primer. With the system I use for virtually every job in my shop I final sand to 320g.,then 2 coats sealer ,proper waiting times. No problems ,no scratches. And I know you are aware of this next statement but just saying for the nonpainters,...... improper sanding techniques, poor products, improper applications, improper drying times, etc, etc, a man can final sand with 1000 grit and still get poor results. Looking Great! You know what your doing, keep it up! Gary

Thanks Gary.

I made a nice step forward on the Mach 1 today.

I installed the LH rear torque box and frame repair section. Sure wasn't easy but now I feel like I have a solid corner stone to work outwards from in that mach 1

I might go back out to the shop with a beer and give a quick once over the bed sides with a long block and some 400, see what I have to work with for highs & lows.

See how level those LMC panels are.
