Glasspack rumble question?

Glasspack rumble question?
I have a 2.5 exhaust with shorty headers. Dumb question. I just want to run a short pipe into a glasspack and turn it down. If I bought a 3" glasspack and just put an adapter on it will it give me any deeper louder tone than just putting on a 2.5 glasspack with no adapter??

I guess as I've gotten older I lean towards a more powerful sound, rather than a loud noisy sound. Also the fewer bits you have in the exhaust system the better. Nothing worse than two clamps right next to each other. I'd go with some Flow masters or the like to fit your 2.5 inch pipes and weld them . Just my 2, worth about 1.5 cents after taxes.

I second the flow master...also, depending on which engine....cross overs might give you an improved rumble. Really be sure you want "loud". A more quiet powerful rumble is much friendier. Whenever I picked loud...I always ended up getting over it real fast and going for the lower dcb rumble. I dont see how 3" glass pack would give you a better tone than the 2.5 but I bet the folks at mangaflow could give you some good feedback on that. Again, think about "loud" in the equation. When your going down the road all by yourself, you might wonder why you have a headache.

With glass packs the only way you get it louder is to make them shorter, with the least amount of bends in the short pipes and even more noise the closer you put it to the motor and then the packing blows out. I personally dislike flow masters and any turbo style mufflers (sound to tinny and muscle car like since I'm into old hot rods). I've run glass packs on every vehicle that I have or had. You can get some header mount glass packs and then run short pipes, I have 16" glass packs on 2 cars with full exhaust and they have a nice rumble. One has a nice bark on decel because they're blown out. I have 24" packs on my panel truck with a 390 and exits in front of the rear wheels, but it has a few 90° bends in the pipes so it's not overly loud.
Might check out Porter mufflers.

my thunderbird , past tense as it's gone now , had flowmasters with 2.5 inch duals on it and while it sounded good i still prefer the rumble of my 53's flatty with headers , 24 inch glasspacks and duals . it is a matter of preference and some of the more modern stuff sounds better with chambered mufflers like my 95 bird , but i will always prefer the note of a glasspack equipped set of duals over the newer stuff . this is of course from the perspective of a living arseholeasaurus ....................

I dont use glass packs anymore because they are usually loud all the time, and I only want it loud when I stand on it. Fun when I was 18 but not anymore. I like to be able to have a conversation or listen to the radio.

You may wind up with less volume running the 3 inch glass packs. Doing so will allow the gases to expand, as compared to the headers and exhaust pipe. Think of any wind instrument. As one "plays" the keys, one is allowing the air to escape at different lengths, of the tube, and valve sizes. That's what creates the different sounds being played. The bigger the valve, the deeper, (lower), the tone.
